More than a cafe, fine dining in a wonderful friendly atmosphere. We stopped in for a evening meal & wow, the food was better than some restaurants I've dined at. My only little niggle was that there was 1 mushroom short. 1 was great but 2 would have been divine to have with my beautifully cooked fillet mignon. Salad was crispy & fresh with lots of variety & a tasty light dressing. A meal where u just want to lick the plate when you're done😊 have since stopped in again for a lunch meal & OMG this place is a must stop. Coffee is so good & the lunch menu is fabulous. I highly rate this cafe

We stopped at this busy little cafe on our drive from Napier to Wellington. The empty tables were full of dirty dishes which should have alerted me to the slow service. Our 15 minute stop ended up being 45 mins. I had the savory scone and my boyfriend had a slice of quiche and a coffee. These were great. I wished the staff could have been honest about their short staffing issues so we could have made a decision to stay or go.

We arrived just before the lunchtime rush and we're happy to order before a few big groups that arrived after we were already seated. 40 minutes later we were finally served our two small breakfasts and kids pancakes. No communication from staff for why it took so long until I eventually had to ask. I think $20 is a bit steep for a small breakfast when it's served with only one piece of un-buttered toast.

My partner and I came in on Saturday, given the price that we paid for our 2 meals and 2 coffees we were very disappointed, we first ordered 2 x corn fritters, only to be told after we had paid for them and sat down that they had run out of corn fritters batter, so my partner ordered the small breakfast and I ordered mushroom on toast. The worker did apologise and refunded us the $5.00. My partner dipped his spoon into his coffee (this is before he received his meal) only to scope up 2 x small egg shells, more attention needed here to make sure nothing is in the cup before making the coffee, worker was happy to make a new one. As for the mushrooms on toast, this was more like mushroom on warm bread, by the time the meal came to the table the bread was soggy like it had been sitting in water, I am sure even the chef would not like to eat soggy bread, I basically paid $20 for a few mushrooms very disappointed. My partners small breakfast was ok, but for the price could have been better, poached eggs tasted...

Plenty of seating inside and out. Good counter service and a variety of food in cabinets and on menu. My favourite place to sit is the "comfy" cushioned seated area☺️ Our 92 year old father lives in Ashurst, I visit him once a week from Wanganui getting him out of his unit to head out for any made appointment/s ,coffee and a tiki tour around the motu. We have headed over to Woodville a few times to Cafe 88 from there we search out second-hand dealers, down through to Shannon Levin Otaki Feilding Rongatea Tangimoana and as many back roads that hopefully bring us back out to destination,Ashurst.😬☺️ I generally take him for a jack nohe to overlook the "new" Manawatu layout at the old gorge entranceway, too. To cut a long story short,Cafe 88 is for he and I and others that are seated or leaving on our arrival,it's never "empty" so that's telling us something. I'm unsure if their is an available toilet on premises but I'm sure there is one in the town🤔 Enjoy...

I went here after driving the new road from Palmy to Woodville. Googled options for breakfast. Cafe88 had good reviews so chose it over the competition across the road. I asked for Bacon&Eggs on toast, poached with extra eggs. That caused mild confusion. It had to be eggs on toast, with a side of bacon. Isnt bacon and eggs a pretty normal request? There were a handful of other people there, so not that busy and the meal came out in a reasonable time. Toast, i had to butter myself, happens at various cafes, im not a fan of it but hardly a big deal. Two thin strips of bacon. 4 eggs. I would usually take a photo but it looked pretty average to be fair. Eggs were under cooked. Outter white cooked but barely. Cutting in the remaining white was uncooked and the yolk cold. Cabinet food looked great, i should have tried it. Didnt try the coffee either so cant comment. I will try across the...
