I stayed at the Royal Hotel as part of a group of 17 people (through Stray journeys). First, part of our group was put into a separate house for the night, but we were told we were not allowed into that house to see the rest of our group. Dinner was absolutely awful. I can't speak for their normal food as we were served something that was not on their menu, but our "fish and chips" was a frozen pre packaged fish that was so bad most people barely ate it. The worst part of the stay was how Deborah, one of the owners, treated us. For example, when we asked at dinner if we could get more sauce she told us we should get it ourselves because she was busy. We had to set our own table, get our own napkins and water from a separate room, and were constantly reminded that she was busy. Deborah then told our group leader that their place was not a backpackers hotel, but I must say that throughout my 9 day journey I have stayed at many hostels and "backpacker hotels" and they were all far better in the way we were treated and the food. In the end we felt very unwelcome so we went over to drink at the other bar in town. After this Deborah once again spoke to our group leader telling him that if we were staying there we should drink there as well, and in the morning asked some of us if we went over to the other bar. This was by far the worst accommodation and dinner I've had in what was otherwise a wonderful trip through...
Read moreWe went to this Restaurant & Bar for drinks & food after Curling with a group of 9 today. I was drinking a Ginger Beer in our van and I literally taking the last sip when I got out of the van and holding an empty can while walking into the bar. We ordered drinks then sit on the outside table. A grumpy fat man came out from the bar and ask us to take our own drink to somewhere else. I assume he is the owner of the bar and I understand that if he sees someone bring their own drinks might against his rules in the bar, but the way that he asked was rule and not nice at all plus it's a Thursday afternoon and we were the only large group along with other 2 individuals. I am not impressed by that man's action and he reminds me of the typical xenophobia people who live in the...
Read moreApril 2024. Perfectly Naseby on a crisp autumn day, the colors of the leaves made the town extra special. The hotel is a lovely historical building, beautifully preserved, friendly owners and delicious food. AND a warm fire burning. We ate lunch with the crackling logs behind us, surrounded by photos of the ‘olden ‘ days, and couldn’t help admiring the bar, the foot rests are made from old railway tracks. We both had ribs with a shared little colander of crispy chips. It’s many years since I’ve enjoyed such perfectly cooked ribs. We really enjoyed a treat lunch and can’t recommend enough. Unfortunately I had no space for the triple chocolate cheesecake topped...
