Homegrown Juice Company Ltd. — Restaurant in North Island

Just a heads up people I ended up with an inch long chunk of plastic lodged in my throat from The Homegrown Berry Anti-Ox drink. I took pictures and I have brought it to their attention and they clearly don't care. I don't want ANYTHING from them but accountability. UPDATE: They have since reached out explained how it may have happened and finished by saying they are going to talk about improving their Quality Control measures.

Here is what they said.

" Thank you for sending the photo. The piece of plastic is a piece of the thread from inside the cap. On rare occasions if the capper head is applying the caps with excessive torque the thread inside the cap can come away and drop into the bottle. When this happens, the cap will not have been applied correctly, and our filling operators are trained to spot and remove these from the line. If this happens the juice should be poured into a clean bottle to check that no plastic pieces have fallen into the juice. In this instance that obviously has not happened, and I am deeply sorry for that.

I will be following up with the production team and reiterating the importance of following this procedure to ensure that this does not happen again.

As a larger improvement project, we are also investigating the use of X-ray as a way of detecting foreign matter in the bottles and this incident will assist with that project.
