Marigold Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

Sadly I'm giving 2 stars. We have visited here a few times for coffees and cabinet food and it has been lovely with good service. Today sadly was a whole other experience with next to no service, they seem to be understaffed for one of the only cafe's left open in Te Puke. My partner got the soup of the day, the seafood chowder. $3 more than usual price and i could of sworn it was out of a can... Did not taste homemade at all. And his garlic bread was rock hard and stale, we couldn't eat it. I had the eggs benedict where my bread was also near rock hard and stale but i got through it and enjoyed the meal other than that... Unfortunately a few hours later i am now experiencing food poisoning symptoms... I am assuming the eggs may of been old then as i am in pain with stomach pains and other symptoms. All round, i dont think i will be back again sadly as enjoyed my visits...

Great food. Friand was perfect. Eggs bene was generous and hollandaise well balanced. The only thing was they used a bread that was difficult to cut with a knife and fork. Still good though. The decor is a bit average but the food makes up for it. My wife had a lasagne for 7.50 that was a really great portion and very tasty. Great value for money. Coffee is good. Spacious cafe. No AC. Was a bit warm. Whoever set the place knows what works as the food is great and thats why I've gone 5 stars. I think its the best cafe food South of Tauranga. The only let down are a few aesthetics. This was our first visit to this cafe, one of the very few open in the main street of Te Puke. I was an unanticipated, unexpected delight. As wheat-avoiding vegetarians, we fully expected to look at what was on offer then walk out but there were several attractive vegetarian options in their display cabinet as well as on the menu. The service was so friendly and prompt. The meals were hot as was the superb coffee. And the premises was spacious with plenty of social distancing between tables. And did I mention that the prices were very reasonable!? We'll be back to try the buckwheat, carrot and date salad which...
