Sugar & Spice Cafe Upper Hutt — Restaurant in North Island

I was visiting Upper Hutt and decided to check out Sugar and Spice Café after seeing it pop up on TikTok. Let me just say. it went above and beyond what I expected! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The owner was exactly what you’d want from a café owner: welcoming, friendly, and genuinely kind, taking the time to make sure every customer felt looked after.

The food was absolutely incredible. Fresh, full of flavour, and plated with care, you could tell there was real passion behind it. Everything I tried had that perfect balance of comfort and quality. It’s one of those places where you can taste the love that goes into the food.

It’s rare these days to find a café that ticks all the boxes: amazing food, top-notch service, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Sugar and Spice Café is that kind of place.

I’ll most definitely be back if I’m ever in Upper Hutt again, this is a spot worth traveling for, and one I’d recommend to anyone looking for a memorable...

We came here to explore our neighborhood options but got sadly very disappointed…

The place itself is nice, and the owner and staff are great and very friendly. The food was tasty too.

However, I think the pricing is very unfair. I know it’s a time when it’s hard for everyone, but I think paying $19 for one piece of bread with a very thin layer of avocado, one egg, and literally one sprinkle of feta (literally one tiny piece!) is ridiculous. In other cafes you can get two eggs and two pieces of bread with a normal layer of avocado and feta.

This was a surprise as we hadn't been here before and we stay regularly just up and around the corner on Ferguson drive. Very good menu, the food we ordered plus drinks for the three of us was very good as were the drinks, mine a milkshake was good and flavour some, the cream corn sandwich was excellent. The place is clean and tidy with friendly staff owners. Great locality so why travel into Upper Hutt or any other direction when we now know this Cafe is handy, a good size and with in walking...
