Another outing in between Christmas Day and New Years. The place was fairly packed, and pumping with patrons, inside and out, basking in the post Christmas Day warmth and sunlight. Understandably, the lunch meals took a wee bit of time, and can I suggest that if you have someone to look after your table, pop across the road and take in the easily accessible rock pools that are so typical of this area of coastline. Mind your footing as it can no doubt get pretty slippery when wet, but if you have young children, this is made for them. The meals are creative, satisfying and well presented. I savoured each one of my duck fat cooked potatoes, while the rest of the gang devoured their respective plates. Thanks to a bit of sharing, we got to appreciate the various flavours, met with lots of appreciative moans. If it’s too crowded out the front, there’s also an area out the back with more seating, and some cabinet food to choose from. On a final note, their home made fruit ice creams are really good. Great food, friendly service and a great location - a solid 4.5 out of 5 from me.

This cafe couldn't have been more of a saviour from the crazy rain in Owhiro Bay where there's literally nowhere to hide or take shelter. The cafe is at a perfect spot between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay. You can come here after a good hike for a lunch or snacks or just a drink. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. You can sit wherever you like, but if it's windy and/or raining, I suggest you to sit inside than outside. You will not be bothered by the strong Wellington winds blowing your food away. There is a lot of room inside. Although it might get wee much if it's crowded but even then you can have a good time with good food and company at this cafe. The food and drinks were really good, as it was raining and was windy when we went there, we preferred nice warm coffee. We also got some roasted mushrooms on toast and thick cut bacon & eggs. The food was just delicious. The staff and service at The Beach House and Kiosk was really nice. The staff is friendly and ignores the crazy jokes your friend has to offer but still laughs at them.

I love this place. We’ve been going here for years for the fabulous service and food. But since the change of ownership, the food is not quite as good. Today I had poached eggs with wilted spinach on sourdough. One egg was perfectly runny. The second a little over cooked. The spinach was just spinach. I miss the yummy creamed spinach of yore. And also, why no hollandaise? The addition of creamed spinach and hollandaise would have elevated the dish to something special. Coffee was great. Son had the brioche French toast. He was happy.

First impressions was that this was a busy Cafe so it must be pretty decent. I was there with my 9 year old son. Ordered a coffee with an extra shot, kids waffle, fries, vanilla milkshake and pink lemonade. This cost around $38.00- 40.00, exact amount was 38.00 something.

Drinks came out on time, however 35 mins later the food was still yet to arrive. At 35 mins I informed the waiter that multiple tables in front of us had been served after they had arrived after us and I was told that they would check with the chef. After 40 mins we received a small bowl of fries and the kids waffle (one waffle ). The kids waffle was pretty small and had some fruit on top of it.

It wasn’t the cost of the food that bothered me , that only became an issue after the failure to provide decent customer when waiting for food which was relatively simple to make. I feel that had I not informed the waiters I was still waiting for one waffle and a bowl of fries after 35 mins i would still be waiting well after 40 mins.

While I do acknowledge that the waiter who served me apologised after Informed him of what happened, there has been a lack of oversight by someone such as a manager to come out and address the situation.

I am not normally one to complain and this is the first review I have ever done (take it at face value). The cafe could have saved themself a bad review if they had properly acknowledged there mistake in this situation, instead of treating there customers like another number and over charging them for extremely small...

Bitterly disappointed with this Cafe. I have never written a bad review on a place but I will certainly never be going back here and will spread the word. Some of the staff were lovely, but spoilt by a member of staff who had no respect for customers at all. I politely asked if there was any aioli as the sauce I was given for my 9 dollar chips (expensive) was really quite awful. She instantly spoke to me very rudely saying there was a 2 dollar charge for aioli and completely spoke over the top of her other work colleague saying it would be fine to get me a different sauce. So not only rude to me but also rude to someone she was working with in front of me. There was no way I was going to pay an extra 2 bucks after that. Especially after just spending 40 bucks on a meal a side and a drink. I was very disappointed with the way in which I was spoken to. Never in all my time eating out in Wellington has this been a problem for me at the establishment I have eaten at (most cafes can afford a little bit of sauce). You would have thought at 9 bucks for some chips it would be a given! I am no way going to pay for a tiny little sauce when the staff are so outrageously rude and the food completely overpriced as it is. I certainly will never be spending any money at this cafe again....

Could be a lot better The prices are exorbitant but not surprising considering their location and the fact there's no nearby competing café or restaurant. If there were they may consider bring their rip off pricing back down out of the clouds. $4 for a tiny tub of sauce are you so stuck up you can't see how stupid that is then get used to people slowly not coming back. Staff-wise it's the same old mix of people who hate their life mixed with those who are filling a slot while they study to get a better job. Decor has improved since their renovation though the color pallette looks like it was chosen by a kindergarten class. Food takes over 10 mins to arrive no matter what it is from toasted sandwiches to simple fries which considering the sheer amount of staff is somewhat mind-boggling. Perhaps you should reconsider how many you actually need, cut down (especially since we're not in the summer season) & use this staff savings to cut back on pricing to your customers. Or if you have to keep them, work out a system where they're actually doing something instead of standing around gas-bagging whilst customers wait forever & a day for their meal. Overall a mediocre restaurant with a pretentious superiority complex & nothing...
