Sharkeys — Restaurant in Northland

First of all, this place is a really nice place to sit outside and eat, and the staff were really friendly. But the food here is dire.

There were no other customers waiting for food when we ordered, just a table of people who were only having drinks. We ordered 2 burgers - one with no sauce - chips, and some loaded kumara fries with bacon bits, onion, cheese, and aioli. Oh, and two thick shakes.

The guy taking our order was great, really friendly and even asked us to clarify what we meant by no sauce in the burger. We clarified (no tomato sauce, no mayo, no mustard; no sauce at all) and sat and waited for the food to arrive.

The shakes came out first, they were basically the consistency of milk, not thick at all. But no worries, right? It happens.

The rest of the food somehow took a full 40 MINUTES to arrive, despite there being nobody else waiting for food and very few people picking up orders. The girl who gave us the food did apologise for it taking so long, which we appreciated as we had almost missed the sunset down on the beach. We left to go enjoy the food.

Burgers were overcooked to hell and, despite the guy being really careful when taking down the order and asking to clarify, they both had mayo all over them. Also, the bacon inside was the super processed kind that is circular and tastes like garbage, which from a NZ takeaway is honestly is pretty close to a war crime.

The kumara chips were for some reason slathered in sweet chilli sauce. What the everloving F? Absolutely disgusting.

Awful food. The sunset was beautiful. This place is lucky they have no competition in the area. We'll be coming back to Baylys Beach in the future but we will not be getting food from this place again. Avoid...

Thought we would pop in for a Cocktail at the local after seeing the sign during the day for there “Cocktail Happy Hour” Teenager walked in before us all to get a soft drink - Shannon swears at him as she says ‘I hate £#{¥…. kids “ - then as we start ordering she is very rude, grumpy - others in the bar also mentioned her rudeness!!!! So then ‘very weak’ drinks arrive which were like mint n soda for the Mojitos, curdled milk in pina colada, and so much Worcester in the Bloody Mary it looked more like a Pooey Jane Then to top in off there was floating bit in the drink which we discovered where the paint on the glasses One of us mentioned this to Duty Manager Shannon who grumpily said must be our fault …. Our overall experience was pretty darn good. We ordered a burger and some loaded wedges.

The burger was delicious it was $15 Chicken and Cranberry. The chicken was juicy and tender and perfectly matched with the cranberry sauce.

The loaded wedges were cooked well and serving size was generous.

I would not recommend the chocolate thickshake, i think that it may have just been quite busy and didn't have a lot of time to make it.
