We made a family trip down to Dunedin and we all were looking forward to the Beano morning tea stop. However, we were served by a grumpy, abrasive older woman which totally killed our 'looking forward to Beano's' vibe. There was no-one else in the shop and there was a lot of impatient huffing and getting snapped at 'wait a minute' which made us feel uneasy. Wife had some bread roll with a strange substance - pumpkin mush? in it. The overcooked pasty and bread roll were at least enjoyed by the gulls outside - it was not edible. The coffee was dumped - undrinkable. Bustling local shop serving freshly baked, very well filled pies, sandwiches, cakes & treats. Almost impossible to stop at just one!
Lovely, jovial staff work hard to look after their customers and completed a real sense of kiwi hospitality.
Only downside is due to the popularity, they don't always have 100% of the menu cooked and ready. However they will make any of the items if you don't mind a little wait, failing that, there are always fantastic backup options...
