This was the best dining experience I had during my 3-week trip of Aotearoa New Zealand.
I ordered the grilled orange roughy that came with puréed kumara, roasted veggies, and bacon butter.
It was beautiful as it was delicious! All the flavors and textures were harmonious. The fish was light and flaky, the puréed kumara was silky smooth, and the veggies and bacon provided the crunch. Top it all with lemon and the acidity balanced the fattiness of the bacon butter. Also, you can’t go wrong with any dish that comes with bacon!
As far as service, infinity stars! First of all, the ambience is so inviting. It was cold and rainy that day. The restaurant is essentially like a cabin, fireplace and all. And the woman who greeted us did so warmly. She has this positive vibe and you can’t help but feel welcomed. She’s also very efficient! She took our names when we placed our orders since she knew we were going to be paying separately. But her memory is so good that she knew our names when we were at the counter.
I highly recommend this place and I would love to come back...
Read moreOh wow. This reminds me how I randomly swiped on Tinder and found this tall gorgeous French vegan sober professor who used to be a fashion model in graduate school. Unexpected.
Lumberjack?? This place needs a Michelin star. Where do I start? Homemade sourdough and whole-wheat bread. Dukkah. Dukkah in Catlins?? With delicious olive oil and balsamic reduction. Carrot pumpkin coconut soup with the above-mentioned homemade sourdough bread. I had veganized lentil stew (with no yogurt on top) and it was the best lentil stew I’ve had. Ever. My daughter had a Reuben and said it was moist and flavorful. Her friend Josh had a burger. We all had coffee, mine was a delicious flat white with soy milk.
Don’t be fooled by the atmosphere - it looks like it’s stuck in the 50s - the food and the service here are on par with best restaurants I’ve...
Read moreWe came across this place as we was staying at a camp site around the corner. So we decided to Google the reviews on the Lumberjack cafe & Restaurant and we started reading them we could not resist after the comments. Well when you walk in it was a wonderful and comforting feeling we had and a lovely welcome from a lady which we found out it was a family run business and she was the owner and her husband was the chef. Well we started with garlic bread and wow 👌 👏 and me and the wife had the steak 😋 and yes the food was fantastic and well presented and plenty of. Overall the lady was lovely and very helpful I wish I could give 6 stars 🌟 I would highly recommend this little gem if you are staying in the area or passing by thank you very much...
