Waihola Fish and Chips — Restaurant in South Island

I'm always in search of a good piece of blue cod and chips. Especially with the cost off it these days cooked with it only being something I eat once in a blue moon. Someone told me it was worth the trip from Mosgiel to waihola to grab a good feed of that kiwi favorite so I've day I did just that. Admittedly it was around 3.30pm when I arrived but even if it was later on as Friday night I would definitely wait 30 to 45 minutes for the fish and chips from here. The fish was cooked fresh, and the batter was perfection. That light ripply batter, the way it should be. Salt was served in sachets so you could apply as little out as much as you like, nice touch, the lady serving and cooking was lovely and really knew how to cook, not only the blue cod but also the chips. Now a confession, I'm so happy I don't live in waihola as of be eating fish and chips on a weekly (or more often) schedule. Quite disappointed. I heard do much food about them. But turn out not that much different from normal fish ans chip shop. Yes their batter is great. Tasty but wait for over 70mins+ for meal (we went there for afternoon tea but by the time we got food, it became our dinner). The seafood kabab I think it was a bit off. Smell old seafood.

Shop was really small, we had to wait out side and few sand flies.

We won't go back We made the trip from dunedin out to waihola to try. But I don't think it worth time and gas.

Plus during service she went out to give food for her friends but she went to pat a dog. Even though she did wash her hands but I still feel uncomfortable to see that. Dog hair could be on her clothes and go back to cook. Not so hygiene. If this is a home cook, I would not care too much but this is take away shop.

And pretty expensive from our photo it was $80-90. I rather go to restaurant...

First review and not a good one sorry folks!

The lady last night,about 7.30pm! Rude as hell. I ordered over the phone which was fine there was some other customers in the shop when I arrived which was fine however she was giving some serious attitude and he wanted to to buy one of the fundraising raffles she basically yelled “what number” then she just looked at me I said I have a phone Order she just said “$7.50” then two others walked in behind me she literally rolled her eyes and sighed. Get sorry for the young girl there she was talking to not very friendly. Thick piece of fish and tasted good however the service will keep me a way in the future.
