Ok whanau, I don’t like writing these types of reviews unfortunately it’s not always great experiences but hoping through these reviews some improvements can be made. We booked a table online when we arrived we thought the place was closed but carpark was full no signs of Private function or anything - We walk in and have to wait, a function upstairs must’ve taken all the attention & focus, we get told we could sit anywhere cos they were busy 🤐 We sit and wait, 10mins into waiting the same waitress pops over and says they can’t do table service because they’re busy - but no communication about whats not available on the menu. We wait for the 5 people behind the counter to notice patrons are waiting🤦🏻‍♀️ we go to place our order & no Corn Fritters, it’ll be great if this info could kindly be advised. We get up and walk out. I’ve been here before and had a great experience clearly Sundays & when they have a function are probably not good days to come here. Best advice is to call ahead if it’s busy probably best to give it a miss. Sadly not a place we’d come back too - a bit of a waste gas & hikoi from Maungarei. It’s a 👎❌from this whanau - go where your presence and $$ is appreciated.

We decided to visit this cafe in Karaka as they said that it is known for quality food, great coffee and friendly customer service and flagged as one of Auckland’s Best Cafes. We went there for Saturday late lunch and everything seems fine. We don't have reservation but we're able to find a table. Staff is friendly. We ordered Nasi Goreng, Urban Soul breakfast and drinks. The issue started when they delivered the food to our table and surprisingly, that's not our order. Then they served as the drinks, but still - not our order. My husband and I we're talking and didn't notice the time passed by and we still not have our meal. So I went to the counter and made a follow up. They served our drinks but no food at all. I made a second follow up, the staff looks surprised - went to the kitchen to check. Finally, we got our food! Yay! Looks like they didn't prepare our order until I followed up. (for whatever reasons). Too bad. In fairness, the food is good and tasty. Price is competitive. Our experience should have been better if we didn't wait for almost an hour for our food to arrived.

Nice place for brunch and yummy hot chocolate. Their chocolate milkshake and pancakes are not overly sweet so it is a good choice for brunch especially when paired with toasties and chips. We ordered large hot choc but a tiny glass came so not sure if the order came wrong or that's their actual serve. While talking and eating, staff wanted to take our plate away (that still had food) so on the third attempt we gave up. This made it feel rushed considering it was a reserved booking. Perhaps an alternative would have been to check if we needed water or wanted more items. Normally, having the plates cleared is a good gesture but it all depends on the approach. Simply wanting to take the plates away without asking if we are done eating is a bit rude.

Poor service - I had been recommended to come here but unfortunately our experience was terrible and our evening was ruined.

I had called in and reserved a table for my family and I had been offered a time and the person taking my reservation asked for my name and number twice.

We turned up and our booking was no where to be seen. We stood at the entrance for a good 10mins while other customers rolled in and were taken to their tables. It was embarrassing and we felt out of place as others that were dining in stared at us.

Finally we were offered seats upstairs. We sat at a wobbly table and out door chairs while others sat on the clear chairs (which was part of the restaurant’s look.

The waiter took orders for the table behind us (who had come in after us) no intention of coming over to us, we had to wave him down to take our orders. Along with our order we asked if we could get some water while we waited.

15 mins later no water but our orders had arrived. Food was good.

The water was served towards the end of our meals. Our drinks that we ordered hot and cold never came and at this point we were sick of waiting and extremely disappointed.

Our bill had our drinks added to it which boldly mentioned it never came, this was quickly wiped from our bill and the waiter including the manager wer very apologetic.

We ordered dessert from the cabinet where one was added as complimentary which I was grateful for. I understand being short staffed is frustrating and stressful especially when there’s a full house. However the table behind us who come in after us got there drinks food water all in time.

The waiters were polite but lost and I felt bad for them. Unfortunately I will not be...

Nov17 Up from one to three stars and should get even better! This Urban Soul Cafe had a bad day when I first visited in October. Today it was sparkling clean, smiling service from the counter staff and fast delivery of nice food and coffee for me and an old friend. Large number of young families mixed in with singles and older couples. Try the slightly off-beat desserts and dishes. They'll reward you with new tastes!

7Oct17 3:05PM Maybe this place will have better days and better service? What else do you, the customer, do when you've paid for your relatively expensive lunch order and you sit at your table for five minutes and ask about your milk shake but you still wait more than ten minutes? The place is not busy. Finally your milk shake arrives but the waiter wobbles on the way to your table and the glass is dripping with overflow! Then you open your cutlery combo (knife and fork wrapped in a serviette) and you find that the serviette is dirty inside? Uughhh ...

Shortly after 2:00PM on a Saturday afternoon we walked into this cafe-bistro. We'd heard about an Urban Soul opening in Karaka. So we made a special trip. The coffee arrived quickly. So did my guest's wine order and savoury dish. But the rest of the experience including the unsmiling young woman at the order-counter ... ? Can...
