Made a booking 3 days out and had our table ready. Quiet and loved the whole layout of the brewery. Having at least 13 years experience in Hotel hospitality and F&B industry I came in with an open mind and my family. Loved the food menu and drink menu layout. Not to mention colouring in sheets for the kiddies while our drinks and food order was taken by our lovely waiter. I ordered 3 Shirley Temples (Sprite & Grenadine) and did not come out. Had floor staff bring out drinks and food and yet no one noticed that I did not have a drink or the kids?? If you do take a drink to a table of 5 might be best to ask if we have drinks to come or even followup? Be mindful floor staff that sometimes when you talk about your collegues about a customer error that someone may very well be hearing this. However for me a genuine apology goes a long way and that was what made my night....communication is key. So in the end I had order 4 LLB (Lemon, Lime & bitters), a Mr Yakamoto Rice Lager and a tasting paddle. For food we order 2 FNC and 1 Chicken burger our kids loved it so much we had to order 2 more FNC. However no one had asked if we wanted tomato sauce (our kids love tomato sauce) until their plates was almost finished. My daughter however would not touch her food until the sauce came out. It was hard to get the attention of any other floor staff no one came to clear empty glasses or even make conversation. Most times I asked for the attention of staff to ask for follow up on drinks and food. Perplexed on the order the food and drinks came out. Fashionably drinks first, kids meals and entrees, then mains. We had ribs, braised lamb leg and hapuka rissotto. I would have preferred the fish skin still on it as us islanders love our fish. We also got the Charcuterie board but was missed accidentally but had it after the mains and even though we gave feedback on its presentation we were satisfied. Even though our first time was an interesting experience it will not be the last. I have faith that from this visit onwards the service and food become as reputable as the...
Read moreImpromptu dinner out with family at our local. Once the wonderful atmosphere, service, food and drinks were something that made one want to stay for hours after finishing a meal. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. We start with a less than friendly hostess. Spilling water on the table all nonchalant and who had the most amazing confused facials when asked about the smoker offerings. After not being able to master the ‘I’ll fake-it, until I make it’ she went to read the specials board herself. Don’t believe the hype kids, no matter what the staff tell you. If they haven’t tried the menu, ask for a new waiter. So what of the special smoker as you walk-in? A nice announcement from the chef with regards to the ribs being ‘the best you’ll ever have’. Well I don’t know about that but my stepdad seemed to enjoyed the taste. Shame they must have been taken from a baby at that size, and at $20 for 6 with only a pickle as a side. We’ll be getting him a second dinner after this. Mine, well the pork cheek did not melt in my mouth, as I was lead to believe. By the time I had removed the fat, I was left with less than a level teaspoon of meat to put back in the bun with pickle and sauce. Again, no side nor were we educated of the fact by the hostess. 3 bites and I’m struggling to hold my poker face. Disgust takes over me...sent back and removed from bill, thanks to another lovely hostess. However that was only after she had informed me what the chef had said with regards to the fat content of a pork cheek. Do I look like I’m on a diet? I’ve eaten pork cheek before and this version is not for human consumption. Also, I think the once delicious beef krokets must be stored in the oil rather than just cooked in it these days. Lesson? Stick to what you know. Excellent cider, beer and...
