The Grange Cafe — Restaurant in South Island

Terrible coffee and the schnitzel was deep-fried (!) to the point that it was like dry oily jerky. Seemed popular with an older demographic though (it's situated in a retirement village) and was pretty full despite being in a literal barn (or a modern facsimile of a barn in any case). My pot of tea was nice, and the service was professional and pleasant if not actually friendly. Probably recommended for a pot of tea and a slice, but I wouldn't get a meal there again. Quite highly priced, for every average brunch. Option for toasted bread needed, can't do herbs, so herbs on bread and in eggs overpowered everything else. Hash brown thick (1 - 1 1/2"), under seasoned, obviously deep fried, greasy overcooked very hard outer, only one bite. Sorry really...

Nice fresh food,great service and attn had coffee and sandwich. I personally don't like the huge barn like building,that is the cafe.. too big,more suited to a dance hall or a wedding venue...l especially dislike the dead /dried arrangement over the mantle,no colour...
