Butlers Reef Restaurant, Bar and Function Venue — Restaurant in Taranaki

We attended a wedding here so it was different from just going to the Bar and Cafe. The wedding was in the big outdoor area of the bar. As a wedding venue it was picturesque with beautiful Mount Taranaki in the background. It was unfortunately very windy so the bride's veil flew off and bits and bobs falling from the huge tree kept landing on the guests. It didn't spoil a brilliant occassion. We had drinks and snacks straight after the wedding..The little sandwiches and spring rolls were delicious. The reception area was set out under a marquee. The buffet dinner was a ten out of ten with fried chicken, roast potatoes, kumara, salads, pork and beef that was melt in the mouth among other things. The freshly made apple pie served with icecream and chocolate cake was out of this world. There was a bar tab and a very helpful staff serving us. The staff here are fantastic we visited for my parents birthdays, we were allowed to bring a cake in, when they bought it out they started us off singing Happy Birthday, they spoke to our children as if they were paying customers and the kids appreciated being asked instead of asking us parents what they wanted. We were greeted as we entered the restaurant with a welcoming smile and every staff member we encountered gave us great customer service, nothing was a problem, they were patient when we were indecisive and everything came out promptly and the pricing was really reasonable. The photos online that customers have taken don't do the food justice everything we had was really yum. Our 9yr old said all the staff were always smiling and not like other places we have been, where they look angry and don't want to be there, we would definitely recommend this place...

We had a birthday dinner on the 1st August at hotel and was very disappointed with our meal . There where 5 of us for dinner. I had the lamb shank the shank was cooked ok but the potatoes where so salty I left them on plate. . Not enjoyable at all. My daughter had pork belly and that was very salty as well. She left most of hers as well. 3 other quests had steak which was cooked perfectly but they also had macaroni cheese which they couldn't eat as it contained so much vinegar that they couldn't taste the cheese so that was left as well. plate.
