For a place with promise, this was disgusting - filthy in the back yard, the kitchen area and the sparse showers. Mould in the shared dishwasher, mouldy food in cupboards & the fridge, weeks of uncleared rubbish out the back. And it was way over-priced,even compared with nearby tourist spots. It’s unfortunately a disgrace to the town of Tuatapere, which has been trying to pitch itself as a tourist centre, following the opening of the Hump Ridge Trail recently. This is the biggest accom provider in the area, but I would actively urge no-one to stay there; it’s a horrible dump - which is a pity, as if it was clean (and if anyone cared about it), it would be quite acceptable, although a bit dated and...

It is like staying at a farm and the facilities are not always very new, the room needs to be aerated (you open the window and it is fine in 5) and there is 1 shower for the floor. However, everything is clean, the owner are lovely and you get a good night of sleep. I found also the price fair for once (usually hostel tends to overcharged here in summer). I’ll recommend to take your own pan, knife and cutting board if you are planning to cook. The fridge and the cooker are great.
Note: their homemade sausages are great, I’d suggest to slice them in two and make them...
