Oh, reel me in and call me caught! If you're on the hunt for the best fish and chips in New Zealand, look no further than this charming little nook that's been flipping the finest flounder for decades. It's not just a place; it's an experienceāa laid-back, flip-flop-friendly spot where the service is as warm as a sunny day at the beach.
Now, letās talk fish. The selection is like the ocean itselfāvast and inviting. You're not getting yesterday's catch here. No, sir! And the batter? Crispy as an autumn leaf, light as a cloud, it's so good you might just forget thereās fish inside. But oh, there is, and itās flaky and fabulous.
Diving deeper into the menu, the homemade touches bring a tear to the eye. The aioli sauce? Itās the kind of stuff you'd want to write home about, creamy and zesty, a perfect mate for the golden fries. And for the sweet tooths, the homemade chocolate mousse is so luscious it'll make you mmm and ahh, while the banana fritter with ice cream is a dreamy end to a feast.
This spot is decidedly unpretentiousādon't expect white tablecloths or silver spoons. But if royalty ever wandered in, Iād say, "Your Majesty, forget the crown and scepter, grab a fork!" Missing out on this place would not just be a missed meal, but a missed slice of life.
Whether you're a local, a traveler, or just a passerby with a craving, this fish and chips haven is the place to be. Itās not just food; itās a decades old testament to what New Zealand flavor is all about. Trust me, your tastebuds...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSorry this a late review but worth mentioning. I love my fish n chips and can't go past a coastal one without trying it. I have read some of the reviews and each to their own I say. But if this day was the day when everything was " PERFECTION' then this was the Day. My battered oysters were half cooked and delicious...The scallops were also done the same way. We had lemon fish and gurnard all perfect.... as I always say if the seafood is still moist you can taste the actual freshness of the fish. These must have been just caught as they were that good. They were all generous size portions and extras were given if the Chef felt they were too small (oysters had x 2 in them). One reviewer said they were pricey. I say if the quality of food is that good then you don't mind paying extra even though i thought it was okay.....Will need to try the rest of the kai there to see if that is top notch as well. So if you are fish n chip lover then this is one place you need...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to Kaiaua Fisheries for the one year anniversary of our motherās passing because she loved it there. There was a group of 25 of us including children and Kaiaua Fish n Chips (or the original KFC as Mum liked to call them) were amazing. They reserved the indoor space for us to use which alleviated concerns about the weather. The food was delicious and portion sizes were bigger than I expected. The service was exceptional, fast and friendly. Our group had everything from fish n chips, burgers, seafood basket, milkshakes and coffees and everybody was very happy with what they had. I highly recommend it, whether you are sitting inside or outside on the deck or tables thereās a great atmosphere and we even had live music coming from next door. Thank you Kaiaua Fisheries for helping a hard day be a special...
