Te Kauwhata Trust Tavern — Restaurant in Waikato

On the most recent occasion that I have eaten in the Te Kauwhata there was a significant improvement upon the previous. However one area still requires attention. Wine knowledge of the waiting staff is inadequate! I think it will always be a problem : The lack of adequately trained staff would be especially acute in a small town. It comes as no surprise that wine knowledge is put to the rear in a situation where food and beer account for 90 pc of the turnover. For this reason I recommend attention and tolerance for the waiting staff. If you notice a fault, as we did: make it a learning experience for the staff. We went for dinner in the Bistro, the barstaff and waitress we're lovely, but they were very busy with all of the tables full. After a 40 minute wait, my food wasn't served hot and had been sitting under a warmer for a while. It wouldve been a lovely meal otherwise. To their credit, after mentioning this to the staff they didn't hesitate to put it on the house (meaning I didn't have to pay).. Ordered fish and chips as takeaway from here, and sad to say....was terrible. I posted about their in house fish and chips last year, saying how great that was, but this.....tonight was just a whole dissapointment. Fish was so bland, batter was tough and a bit doughy. Chips were ok and a good amount, but hotdogs and crab stick weren't nice because of the batter as well, also overcooked. We'll stick with Fish...
