The first bit of service was good. The front counter welcomed us and asked how many, then put a couple tables together for us. While waiting one of us was standing at the food pass where the chef said "why dont people book". So decided to move on. Informed the front of counter about while we're leaving so hopefully there's a change in the attitude of the chef finds an industry more suited for him as cafe's tend to be a place to walk in for food.
Response: to clarify the comment made was in reference to our first time being here and something to remember for next time. Not an attack on the place but an observation we made for ourselves. We apprecaited the front of house staff member making a larger table for us. The sarcastic comment from the chef was not required and completely ruined the impression the staff member had just made. Had we stayed and tried your food we may have looked at booking in future given we had already noticed the size of the location and limited seating. Thank you for the apology but it will be unlikely we...
Read moreSadly on this days things must have gone wrong. There were 8 or 10 people in front of us which made it a long wait. That was fine. When our food did arrive I had a milkshake which was milk powder and no ice cream so that was a bit weird. My main meal was a seafood chowder and at the edge of it was a black human hair. As it was on the edge I thought Oh well pulled it out and got on with it. I ate possibly 1/3 of it as the taste and quality of the meal was awful. The toast I was gorgeous. My wife had a Chickpea fritter which was overcooked and bounced off the plate when you put a fork into it. Both of us left a substantial part of our meal. We did not complain as it had taken so long to come and didn't want to start the process again. Generally the staff were friendly. Maybe we caught them at bad time. Sad though as it was our worst meal in three weeks in...
Read moreReally nasty service and I would avoid. I was cycling the Huka Falls loop and looking forward to sitting down on the return leg with 2 friends who had come over from Prague especially. I am a kiwi and was so embarrassed by the way the owner spoke to the guests after we paid for drinks and some food but the place was closing so he turfed us out in a very brash and unapologetic way. Additionally 2 more young female tourists from Munich had joined us and tagged along as we knew the route and they were treated even worse. I felt so bad for us good and kind kiwis in particular as they bought my NZ kola as a thanks for leading everyone. The owners should be ashamed and i note also they own the helicopter business and if this is any reflection on their treatment of tourists and fellow kiwis then don't get in one of those helicopters. They might turf you out...
