Update: have subsequently returned, and I don’t know how they did it but the burgers are even better than I remembered. Honestly the best pub burger I have ever had, and also one of the best value burgers in the country. If you do one thing while you’re north of Westport, GET A BURGER HERE! Great food, amazing value, friendly locals. Best steak burger I have had in years. Just like any small-town pub, if you walk in expecting applause for just showing up, you’re in the wrong place (which is what I suspect happened to the negative reviewers below). If you go into a small town pub with a bad attitude, you’re not going to have a good time. There’s two signs outside, one says “best burgers, coldest beers, most modest proprietor”, and the other one says “no idiots”. This says it all really. Basically, don’t be put off by the negative reviews. Give it a try and you won’t regret it.

Great food at extremely good prices! I came here two nights in a row as it was so good. Definitely better than Grumpys down the road (though that wasn't bad). The people here can come across stand offish at first, but they're really relaxed and friendly. Typical West Coast vibes here! Will be back at the nearest opportunity.

Great local pub with a friendly atmosphere and welcoming hosts. The vegetarian burger was huge with a lovely patty and great mix of salad with an egg as well. Best we’ve ever had! Large range of beers on tap.

Interesting place! Loads of local history on the walls, chart of the various fish that make up whitebait, warnings that they do not cater to diets.

The 'bad ass wife' serving drinks at the bar was attentive, and listened well. No small talk & no conversation other than what we were ordering, but that's ok as not everyone is an extrovert.

If you want a night off cooking & a feed of fried food this is the place for you. The $30 seafood basket was beautifully cooked & enough for two people. The $18 fried veges & chips was another beautifully cooked fried up meal that was too much for one person Nice corn nuggets!

Plenty of parking. Boots off at the door. One large TV on silent with sport playing. You can choose to sit at high tables & stools or around tables of normal height.

We went Thurs night around 5.30pm ish and they weren't busy. Most people were in groups at tables with 4 to 6...

In Mid October we visited this establishment seeking an evening meal. While it was clearly advertised that meals would be served up until 8.00pm and we where within this time, we were told that the kitchen was closed. The publican was abrupt and inhospitable. Having thought it was a one off situation, we again attempted to get a meal the next day only to be told they are serving fried food only. This is not West Coast hospitality at all, and for the sake of a further 4km drive ,I would highly recommend the Seddonville Hotel where the food and Hospitality is...
