I confess, I did not expect too much of Gjøvik foodwise before I went to attend some family business. I did however have a look around for something above the ordinary, and I heard rumours of 37 Eatery. After a quick call we got a table on friday evening, and found the restaurant down by the station. Low, long, elegant building, and we walked into a place that divided into a great looking bar, and a restaurant with an open kitchen. After checking out the menu we started with their serrano and manchego plate. We loved the flavour combinations, and their lightly grilled garlic bread tied it all together. For entrees we went with the spicy fish soup and the arabic style lamb. The lamb came with bulgur, hummus, spicy cauliflower, and something reminding me of a fresh cheese cream. Juicy and succulent lamb, deep pink in the middle and soo tender. The fish soup held its promise of being spicy, with clear inspiration from the areas around the Andaman Sea. Large chunks of fish, and again a very delicious experience. This was actually so good we decided there and then to return the following evening with the rest of the family. This allowed us to start with the wine list. And that wine list is a treasure!!! It is magical. It contains bottles impossible to find elsewhere. And I feel kind of sorry for writing this, as some wine nerds will check it out, and imbibe these bottles before I return. Then again, not sharing such a fortune would most likely bring me bad luck in the long run. Check out their Bibi Graetz collection!!! And the rest as well, it was amazing walking around later and look at the cellar. Getting back to the food for Saturday, we tried the scallop and papaya salad as well. Lightly grilled scallops on juicy papaya was a new sensation, and a most pleasureable combination. This was followed by their old cow entrecote, the classic vaca viejo, the finest spanish meat from Gallicia. Almost perfect preparation, with a juicy and succulent red meat on the plate. A 1995 Cos d'estournel was a perfect bottle to go with that steak. There was also a mountain trout served on what looked most like a fruit salad. Some very interesting flavours of sweetness and acidity from the fruit went very well with the well cooked fish. And it looked like a piece of art. I could go on with the desserts, but far more important was the service from everyone in the house, going to the point of finding a champagne cooler, to make sure the decanter for the white was suitably cooled, and long conversations. We felt very appreciated, and we did likewise appreciate very much everything we experienced these two evenings. I am looking forward to returning, and try more of the menu, and dive even deeper into the cellar. Thank you very much to 37 eatery for a...
Read more37 Eatery is a beautifully designed restaurant that blends elegance and minimalism. The space is divided into a stylish drink area—perfectly refined and classy—and a more minimalistic yet charming dining room featuring an open kitchen that adds a dynamic touch to the experience.
We tried the spicy fish soup, the lamb shank, and the fried ice cream for dessert. The fish soup was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and highly recommended. The dessert was good, though it lacked a bold element to make it stand out. It could have used a stronger flavor to give it that extra kick.
Overall, a great spot worth visiting if...
