Many things have already been told about the Under but our visit there on the 12th June was definitely the culinary highlight of our lives so far and you can only use superlatives to describe it. It was a unique experience, a wonderful evening, simply fantastic and perfect. From the reception to the escort outside, everything was really tailored to offer the guest a perfect experience. You were personally greeted at the entrance and then led down to have a small aperitif about halfway down. We felt the warm welcome right from the start and we were then led to our table directly in front of the large glass pane. Here my bag was even given a small stool so that it wasn't standing on the floor. 😃 We have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant before. I have no idea whether this is common in a Michelin-star restaurant, but here too it was clear right from the start that attention was really paid to every little detail. I had already contacted the restaurant about our seating after booking and was assured that if we were there at 6:30 p.m., we would get that seat. In the Under I found out that I had already emailed with the restaurant chef about this. We opted for the non-alcoholic package for drinks to accompany the courses and it was the perfect choice for us. Each drink was presented and explained by our juice sommelier Jonathan and the juices tasted simply wonderful. To say juice is not really accurate, because there is much, much more to it than just mixing two or three juices together. There was seaweed in it, herbs, honey - they really put a lot of thought into it and you won't find these juices anywhere else. Each course was also presented and explained personally at the table by the chef. The view through the large window into the sea with the many fish and many jellyfish was simply breathtaking. The various courses were a taste revelation and my taste buds still rejoice when I think about it. As we went through the different courses, we were told that a lot of importance is attached to the ingredients for each course being locally sourced and fished in the neighboring bays, and herbs and berries being collected there. We had a perfect four-hour experience at Under. The waiters - no, hosts - were so attentive and friendly and created a really relaxing atmosphere for the guests. Of course it wasn't just the perfect culinary experience, it wasn't exactly cheap either. But the prices can be checked on the website, though. And for us it was worth every cent. You don't do something like that every week or every month. Since I was particularly fond of the special juices, I mentioned this again and again and praised them in detail. So we were presented with a gift on the next morning when we checked out at Lindesnes Havhotell. Jonathan, you are simply the best ! 😃We were were of course very happy about this surprise. We can only recommend to anyone who is traveling in southern Norway to treat themselves with a visit to Under. It is something very special and was a really great evening, a perfect culinary experience. We are very grateful that we were able to experience this and afford it. Unfortunately the pictures cannot really convey how incredibly beautiful it really was. It felt like another world and the meditative music in the background matched the picture of the sea perfectly. For the Under I would not give 5 stars...
Read moreBeautiful. One of my favourite restaurants. The aesthetic of the place is extremely calming - the dark grey and brown colours of the exterior contrast extremely well, and create a welcoming atmosphere for us. Additionally, the building itself is quite extraordinary. I was recommended this place by both locals and social media posts, and was shocked to see this inquisitive level of design - a bridge leading the way towards the beautiful building, not far from the shoreline. We dined here at night, and were lucky enough to witness the pleasant glow of the building's lights shine on the dark waters below. It was certainly a one-of-a-kind experience - I have never seen anything like this before in any of the other countries I have visited. In terms of the interior design, I was absolutely flabbergasted. At first, I did not expect the restaurant to occupy so much space underwater, as I believed there to simply be some pillars supported the building underwater, but no, was I wrong. As I toured around the area, I was continuously greeted by the scenic images of the pretty blue waters against the clear glass of the restaurant. I was also pleasantly surprised by the simplistic layout of the area. Instead of those fancy restaurants with expensive mahogany tables and topped with spinning glass plates, I was met by the sight of plain, yet refreshing wooden furniture. The foot itself was a completely different story. I knew it would be extremely expensive, however I was completely unready for this level of delicious petit dining. The presentation of the dishes is top-notch, and arrived both piping hot and in perfect condition. We ordered some fenalar, crab liver, borsch, and also helped ourselves to a extensive range of seafoods, including mussels and scallops. The food here is insanely fresh, unlike those of other high quality restaurants I have dined at and I was able to fully immerse myself in the culture and diet of the Norwegians. Despite the 8 month wait for the luxury chance of dining here, and spending hefty amounts of money, I would say this experience is to die for. Completely worth it if you have the time and money. Read moreNow Norway can proud of the world's largest and Europe's first underwater restaurant! It's name is 'Under' and it's situated at town Snøhetta. The restaurant "Under" is built out in the sometimes-harsh waters at Spangereid in Lindesnes municipality, Norway's southern tip. This underwater restaurant and tourist attraction opened in March 2019. The building itself is an architectural gem. It is reminiscent of a rock formation that is rising out of the sea; almost like a kind of art installation. The award-winning architect firm, Snøhetta, has designed the spectacular building. Half-sunken into the sea, the building’s 34-meter long monolithic form breaks the surface of the water to rest directly on the seabed five meters below. The structure is designed to fully integrate into its marine environment over time, as the roughness of the concrete shell will function as an artificial reef, welcoming limpets and kelp to inhabit it. With the thick concrete walls lying against the craggy shoreline, the structure is built to withstand pressure and shock from the rugged sea conditions. Like a sunken periscope, the restaurant’s massive window offers a view of the seabed as it changes throughout the seasons and varying weather conditions. Nearest airport from Under is situated at Kjevik, Kristiansand which is 85 km (1h 20 min by car and taxi) far away from Under. You can find four car rental firms (Sixt, Hertz, Avis and Budget) based at Kristiansand Airport Kjevik. Sixt, Avis and Budget are also located in Kristiansand city center. Agder Taxi in Kristiansand also have fixed rates to and from Kristiansand Airport Kjevik and to Under. Individual sightseeing arrangements, pre-arranged private shuttles and cars with private driver can be arranged for trips to Under. There’s parking spots and charing station for electronic vehicles at the nearby hotel, a short walk from Under. Close to the restaurant you can find Lindesnes Havhotell also if you want to stay here. The hotel opened in July 2010 and is characterized by an abundance of recreational activities and warm,...
