Spice Bazar High Tea in Lahore Phase VI boasts a prime location overlooking the main boulevard attracting a clientele ranging from families and office workers to young partygoers and tourists. The ambiance is pleasant and the staff courteous making for a generally agreeable experience. However, while Spice Bazar undoubtedly surpasses many of its competitors, its offering does indeed outshine 80% of Lahore's high tea places. The strengths are undeniable. The Dahi Balay with its sweet and spicy sauce, and the gol gappay were highlights exceeding the average in both taste and presentation. The fruit chaat also proved a worthy starter. The surprise star of the savory selection was the Masala/Egg Fried Rice with Kung Pao Chicken, a bold and welcome departure from the typical high tea fare. The Haleem and fresh tandoori naan were also commendable. The inclusion of fresh ginger, fried onions and green chilies as accompaniments to the chicken dishes showed a thoughtful touch. However, the savory section revealed some inconsistencies. While the finger fish with tartar sauce was pleasing, the small burgers and sandwiches fell short of v good, described accurately as "good but not very good". The pizza, alas, was merely average. Similarly, the cheese balls and chow mein were unremarkable. The honey wings, chicken boti and kebabs though acceptable lacked distinction, leaving the impression of standardized, rather than handcrafted, preparations. The dessert selection redeemed much of the savory inconsistencies. The firni served in clay pots was exquisite, a true standout. The trifles, mousse and creamer sweets were enjoyable. However, the true champions were the chasni sweets – the jalebi, patisa, burfi and hot gulab jamun were unforgettable, showcasing a level of skill that was noticeably absent in some of the earlier courses. The mint margarita while awesome was served in a single serving size which seems unfulfilled. In conclusion, Spice Bazar High Tea offers a generally enjoyable experience elevated by its exceptional location and standout desserts, particularly the food, snacks, chasni sweets and However, the inconsistent quality of the savory items, ranging from excellent to merely acceptable, prevents it from reaching true culinary heights. While a recommended visit, Spice Bazar would benefit from focusing on elevating the consistency of its savory offerings to match the brilliance of its sweet treats. The menu could also benefit from Drink offerings and potentially more generous in mint margarita. It’s a true value for money and if it’s club with bank discounts, is really an icing...
