I recently visited Illyas Dumba Karahi Shinwari at their Johar Town branch and, unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory.
Food Quality:
The Shinwari Dumba Karahi was a major letdown. The meat quality was poor—mostly full of fat, with very little actual meat. To make matters worse, the taste of the meat itself was unappetizing. The only redeeming factor was the Karahi gravy, which had a decent tomato-based flavor. However, I didn’t come to eat just gravy, and for the price paid, it felt like a waste.
We also ordered a Chapli Kabab, and that turned out to be an even bigger disappointment. The kabab was full of fat, lacked meat, and had no authentic Chapli Kabab taste. It honestly felt like a joke and showed no resemblance to the traditional dish.
Service:
The order takers seemed uninterested and It felt like the staff wasn’t trained or didn’t care much about the customer experience.
Comparison with Ghani Shinwari:
For comparison, my recent visit to Ghani Shinwari near Phase 6 DHA was absolutely fantastic. Even though it wasn’t their main branch, the food quality and taste were leagues ahead of Illyas. There’s simply no comparison between the two—Ghani Shinwari outshines Illyas by a huge margin.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, my experience at Illyas Shinwari was below average. The poor food quality, lack of authentic flavors, and subpar service make it a place I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. I certainly won’t be visiting...
Read moreAlaya's Dumba is a haven for lamb lovers, offering an exceptional culinary experience. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Namkeen Tikka of lamb, renowned for its unmatched flavor and tenderness. For those who enjoy a hearty meal, the lamb karahi—available in both Sulemani and Shinwari styles—is a must-try. Their Rosh and kebabs are equally delightful, catering to diverse palates.
While the food is on the pricier side, it’s definitely value for money, as each dish is freshly prepared with high-quality ingredients. However, patience is key—you’ll need to wait 45 to 60 minutes after placing your order, but the freshness and taste make it well worth the wait.
The restaurant gets particularly crowded on weekends, so it’s better to plan ahead. A smart tip is to order in advance and arrive when your food is ready. This will save you time and make the experience smoother. The parking options are good, and the staff is friendly and accommodating, which adds to the overall positive vibe.
In summary, Alaya's Dumba is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to savor authentic lamb dishes. Despite the cost and waiting time, the excellent food, warm service, and convenient facilities make it a spot...
Read moreThe most common problem in such desi food brands in Pakistan is that you can never know which one is the real one. Now this branch has added the word Asli along "Ilyas Dumba Karachi" but the fact is that it is not the same. If you want to enjoy the atmosphere don't go for lunch rather choose to go to dinner. We went there around 2PM in the afternoon but we were the only customers at that time. Although the serving time was shorter but the waiters were not very attentive and nobody visited us during the whole meal even sometimes we called them loudly but they didn't listen. The Quality and Quantity was fine and the taste was also good. They don't have Card Payment option however they have bank transfer option but it took at least 10 minutes to the confirm the payment as the person who confirms the account transfer was not present and they called and confirmed him which took unnecessary time. The Chapli Kabab were also fine, however the peshawari qahwa was not the true Taste which they said the person who make the Qahwa...
