This place serves classic traditional food such as tortillas (small fried corn pancakes), tostones (fried plantains), yuca frita (fried cassava), ohaldres (fried dough) and potatoes on different variations of eggs. I had the omelette with two tortillas for four dollars and fifty cents.
This is a place for those who do not want to spend too much on breakfast. If price is in indication of quality, it applies here. This is simple food made by a simple cook. This is no frills food here folks. You come here to put something in your stomach and not to expect five-star dining. Indeed the omelette I had was unorthodox compared to all others I have ever had. Instead of mixing all ingredients together with the eggs before cooking, in this case the eggs were pan fried separately and everything else was put into the fold. It was as simple as it can get. Although the no frills nature of the food made me compare it to other omelettes in my past, I rested and declared that it served its purpose.
I have not tried the lunch, but the prices and the menu increase substantially. The offerings sound very enticing and I will likely try them the next time I am in town. For an average of twelve dollars, you can have meats such as chicken, beef or pork cooked over firewood. I particularly enjoyed the location. True to form like other restaurants on main street, the seating area is open air with a view onto the street.
I cannot in good conscience write this review without mentioning the recent row of bad ones. The mentioning of sancocho soup being transparent along with pictures made me question the cooking process. No, it is not supposed to be so transparent. For sure it was a valid complaint. I do see this place with potential to improve though since restaurants particularly on main street need to do so in order to...
Read moreWell.....the place seems very nice at first glance, and actually more presentable than some of the other restaurants in the area. However, the food is absolutely terrible. I have no doubt I'm my mind that the chicken and especially the pork chops that my wife ordered were not fresh but probably a day or more old and than reheated. The pork chop was like eating rubber sole from a very old shoe. Even the stray dog that we kept feeding this horrendous food too had a hard time chewing it. It was literally inedible. Otherwise the yuca frita was good (it's hard to mess up yuca fries tho.) Fried plantains were alright, and the coffee and tea were fairly priced. The meal was not as expensive as other restaurants however the food was not good and therefore unfairly priced even at this cheaper rate. I recommend any other restaurant than this one. Dont let the cozy setting fool you...avoid...
Read moreSmallest portions at most exorbitant prices. We had sancocho (correct), steak with onions (meat was sooo hard, thank god the portion was small...) and ribs (yes, they had been cooked over the wood fired barbecue, but not sure when and definitely for too long). Both mains had really a miminal serving and were priced outrageously high. I normally don't write negative reviews, but that was a very disappointing experience.
With regards to the comments of the owner, must have confused us with somebody else. We had juice...
