Das Brauhaus 1516 — Restaurant in Asuncion

Mejor que hablo en inglés - this place is just superb. I arrived - very tired - into Asunción but instead of going to bed I thought I’d have a beer. I sat down with my book and my beer but everyone in the bar, staff, owners and customers made me feel so welcome and brought me over onto their table and I had the most wonderful, memorable first evening in Paraguay that I will, truly, never forget. I returned on my final night and was greeted like an old friend. The beer (both German and Paraguayan) was superb and I had the most delicious traditional dish of stuffed red pepper. The intention of the owner is, as he said to me “to bring good people together”. He has certainly succeeded - this place is a gem and I fully intend to keep the promise I made to return...

Disappointed. The Flammkuchen was supposed to have fresh champignons, instead it had blobs of dark grey mush which may have been some kind of mushroom presto, but I'm not sure. I was asked whether I wanted the white wine with ice. Expecting it would be cold I declined. However, the wine was nearly room temperature, somewhere above 25 C. The ice was not detrimental to the flavour of the wine, it sort of improved it. Pity, I was looking forward to my dinner at...

Das Brauhaus 1516 ist grundsätzlich ein schön gelegenes Restaurant mit Potenzial. Der Außenbereich ist gepflegt, aber leider sind die Stühle derart unbequem, dass man dort ungern länger verweilt – zumal bei Einbruch der Dämmerung die Mücken das Erlebnis zusätzlich erschweren (wofür das Lokal natürlich nichts kann). Der Innenraum wirkt etwas karg und kühl – hier fehlt es an Wärme und Atmosphäre.

Zum Essen: Wir haben Käsespätzle und Flammkuchen bestellt. Der Flammkuchen war geschmacklich gut, aber der Teig war leider zäh und schwer zu kauen. Die Käsespätzle bestanden größtenteils aus Zwiebeln, mit sehr wenig Käse – für mich als Deutsche ein eher enttäuschendes Erlebnis, auch wenn mir bewusst ist, dass wir uns hier in Paraguay befinden und die Küche sich entsprechend anpasst. Trotzdem sollte man dann vielleicht überlegen, andere Bezeichnungen zu wählen, wenn das Gericht stark abweicht.

Ich persönlich würde nicht noch einmal dort essen gehen, kann aber nachvollziehen, dass Fleischliebhaber vielleicht mehr auf ihre Kosten kommen – so wie es andere Bewertungen vermuten lassen. Für mich war es insgesamt leider nicht...
