Nonno Guido’s Ristorante
A newly opened restaurant in La Trinidad, Benguet, a neighboring town of Baguio, just 30 minutes away with no traffic. This open air restaurant with industrial theme of black painted steel and wood finish, gives you a calming view of the pines while you enjoy your meal in the cold Benguet weather. It was a bit foggy when we got there and it drizzled a couple of times. The staff was kind enough to help us transfer to a roofed section of the building.
We ordered the following:
Quattro Formaggi Pizza (₱650) This pizza is probably 12 inches in diameter, a good enough price for 3 to 4 persons. As it was only the two of us, we ordered more than enough and had to take the pizza home. If you are a fan of blue cheese or would like to try it for the first time, then I definitely recommend it to you! We both love the dough, as it was a chewy bread like consistency and had some cheese stuffed into the crust.
Guido’s Salad (₱330) This salad is very unique. It has a combination of green and black olives, onions, jalapeños on some romaine lettuce and topped with sliced almonds. They provide a flavorful vinaigrette to drizzle on. We both love this salad and even if it was a huge serving, we were able to finish it. Great value for quantity!
Italian Pork Ribs (₱450) This dish already contains a side of salad and rice. So it is perfect for people who cannot live without having rice in their meal. It was good. The meat was melt in your mouth off the bone, juicy and complimented by a flavorful sauce. The sauce was also not to overpowering. Also a must try!
Blueberries and Cream (₱170) Iced This drink, although aesthetically pleasing to the eye, was not really a kicker for me. It’s basically blueberry jam with milk, and not blended. The flavor has a candy like taste, which I imagined would be perfect if you have kids. They also have another variant, the strawberries and cream.
Fresh Fruit Blends (₱150) A blend of carrot, apple, orange and pineapple, this drink is refreshing, but is too small in serving for the amount it represents. I still prefer this over the prior.
This is a pay as your order establishment. You immediately place your order on the main floor, and head down to the dining area. Don’t worry, they will deliver your food to you, because I imagine it will be great trouble to pick up my own food, since I am such a klutz.
Overall, it is a great place to dine in. A great place to relax and chat about with friends and family. Not a lot of view to see except pine trees but the food is really good that I am willing to give them a full rating on taste alone.
FOOD 5/5 SERVICE 4/5 AMBIANCE...
Read moreHad Mother's Day lunch here after camping at nearby ALAPO. Didn't realize it was famous in socmed though. This place is a gem. The calming al fresco vibes, add to that the cold weather of Benguet and the great food - it's just a wonderful experience.
If I had to say anything negative about it, well, there are a couple. One, our food took too long to serve. We didn't mind at first since we were still soaking in the ambiance of the place and we were busy chatting. But when our little one started getting hangry that's when we noticed it was taking too long, and we made a follow up. Turned out our food was served mistakenly to another group of guests and the staff had to scramble to put together our order when they realized it. After the food was served the manager went to our table apologized for the mishap. They even served Tiramisu on the house (not sure if that's a Mother's Day thing or because of the delay in serving the food). Not that we were upset, since the food pretty much made up for the delay, but we appreciate the manager taking responsibility and apologizing on behalf of the staff. Really sorry I forgot your name, miss manager, but thank you for the gesture.
Another thing was the yogurt - I think it was Guido's Yogurt or something (again, sorry for my bad memory). Of course, this is a subjective opinion, but it was too sweet. I have a sweet tooth so that's saying something. I get it that not too many people like the sour taste of yogurt, but the syrup that was put on the yogurt is just overly sweet. Wish they would cut back on it a bit since the yogurt by itself tastes great (again, subjective opinion there).
Despite these, our overall experience in Nonno Guido's was great. I wouldn't hesitate to come back whenever I go back to Baguio or Benguet. Well worth the winding roads...
Read moreThis spot has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, made even more enchanting by the cold and foggy weather that surrounds it. The moody ambiance sets the tone for a relaxed dining experience, although the lack of lighting in the restrooms was a bit of a drawback and something that could definitely be improved. As for the food, it was a standout feature. I especially appreciated the inclusion of salads in some of the dishes—they worked beautifully as palate cleansers and added a refreshing balance to the meal. Everything we tried was cooked to perfection, with attention to detail evident in every bite.
The service, while polite and accommodating, fell short of expectations at times, likely due to the rain. However, I have to give them credit where it’s due—the staff went out of their way to provide umbrellas for guests navigating the outdoor areas, which was a thoughtful gesture that didn’t go unnoticed.
One of the real highlights, though, was the coffee. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly brewed—clearly a must-try for coffee enthusiasts. It’s the kind of place where coffee isn’t just an afterthought; it’s a feature.
Overall, despite a few minor shortcomings, this is a fantastic spot to dine in. The food is satisfying, the ambiance is unique, and the coffee is exceptional. If you’re looking for a memorable experience in a picturesque setting, especially if you’re a coffee lover, this place is definitely...
