I passed their branch in Mandaluyong along San Joaquin street and was immediately attracted to the concept of all day breakfast. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day after all. The open air restaurant is situated in a residential area but is near my work place (and other offices/warehouse such as Lazada and several banks). I ate my lunch there and surprisingly, there weren't too many patrons; I liked that, since it meant a more peaceful lunch break.
Their menu boasts of typical Filipino breakfasts - different variations of 'silog', champorado, pandesal sandwiches and pancakes/waffles. Since I was aiming for a meatless lunch, I opted for the Tuyo with Kesong Puti, and - in true breakfast fashion (even though it was noon!) - a cup of steaming coffee. I chose the Kapeng Kano blend. BTW, the waiter said all their coffee are Batangas-based (the Barako kind). I don't always drink coffee so I don't trust my verdict with it... It was just fine. It woke me up for the rest of the day.
Finally, my verdict on the food. I always like food presented well, and they did here (except for the coffee). They served the Tuyo in pieces - ripped chunks that were swimming in oil. I don't know if that was intentional, but it was quite greasy. It tasted like an ordinary salted fish but it was topped with crumbled Kesong Puti which was creamy and nice, albeit I felt was too small a portion to have it headlined in the name of the dish. The silog meals always come with two eggs and mine was served scrambled, which I liked. The garlic fried rice was perfectly cooked and there were 2 huge slices of tomato drizzled with oil and what I assume is parsley. With all the saltiness, I needed that tomato to balance the flavor.
The food in Kanto is quite affordable with a meal prices averaging around Php100-115. The servers were friendly too, although they were a bit noisy in the background.
All in all, I found Kanto Freestyle Breakfast to be a decent food place and I foresee myself frequenting their premises for lunch or merienda breaks. I'd very much like to try their other selections, particularly the New Zealand Beef Tapa and the interesting variety of pancakes...
Β Β Β Read moreWe just got off the bus from Banaue to Manila. I googled 24 hours breakfast places near the place and Kanto Freestyle Breakfast came up. I was excited to try their food since I haven't had decent food for 10 hours. It's good that they run 24/7. We arrived and got seated. Our most of our phones and power banks are nearly dead so we had to charge. We asked the waitress. She told us it was not allowed. Devastation. We looked around and saw that another waiter was looking at us. He told the waitress to let us charge our phone since he saw that we just got off a long ride. So Kind :DDDD. The food was amaziinngg! I had the Beef Tapa. I liked it a lot. I expected Freestyle Breakfast to be like homemade with no presentation and such. But when my food came in I was surprised! I looked delicious and it tasted delicccioouus. Thank you for the experience and the...
Β Β Β Read moreWho would have thought that a place like this (kanto) would serve food as good as they do. The place is called kanto coz the place is just beside the street. Literally beside the street and it looks like an eatery.
But wait until the food arrives. They have good food and nice presentation as shown on the picture above.
We ordered the Honey garlic chicken, which smells so good upon serving. The chicken is tender and it tastes so good, it is also served with a dip which complements the chicken.
Then the Batangas Beef Tapa, which is good. Salty and not rubbery. And their Goya chocolate pancake (i think. Haha) and the Berries pancakes. Their pancakes are not too sweet. So it is not nakaka "umay". They say that the pancakes here are better than iHop. Well I haven't tried iHop yet so I...
