Growing up in Nueva Ecija, there were certain things you could always count on: the golden glow of rice fields at sunset, the warmth of family gatherings, and the unmistakable joy of receiving a box from Edna’s Cakeland. For many of us, Edna’s isn’t just a bakery—it’s a part of our celebrations, our traditions, and our childhood memories.
If there’s one thing that truly defines Edna’s, it’s their Yema Roll. This isn’t just a dessert—it’s a piece of nostalgia wrapped in soft, fluffy chiffon cake and coated with that rich, velvety yema we all grew up loving. There’s something special about how the sweetness lingers just right, never overpowering, always leaving you wanting another bite. It’s the kind of treat that instantly brings back memories of birthdays, reunions, and Sunday merienda with the family. I remember how this was a go-to pasalubong, something proudly gifted to friends and relatives, a symbol of Nueva Ecija’s sweet generosity.
While their Yema Roll may steal the spotlight, Edna’s Cheese Rolls deserve their own moment of praise. They’re soft, buttery, and have just the right amount of cheese filling—subtle yet indulgent. Paired with a hot cup of brewed coffee, it’s the kind of breakfast or merienda that makes you pause and truly enjoy the moment. The balance of sweet and savory in every bite makes it a simple yet unforgettable comfort food.
Beyond their pastries, Edna’s also serves homemade siomai, which is surprisingly good. The meat is well-seasoned, juicy, and has that satisfying bite that makes you reach for more. But if I had one minor complaint, it’s that they tend to be a little too stingy with their chili sauce. It’s a small letdown for those of us who love that extra heat, but it doesn’t take away from the overall experience.
It’s impossible to ignore just how hot Cabanatuan can get, which is why Edna’s Iced Nescafé Coffee is such a gem. It’s simple—just the right balance of strong, bitter coffee and a touch of sweetness—but it’s exactly what you need to cool down in the midday heat. It pairs perfectly with their pastries, especially the cheese rolls, making for a refreshing and satisfying combo.
One of the things I love most about Edna’s is that stepping inside feels like a pleasant escape from the scorching heat of Cabanatuan. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a cozy, homey interior that makes you want to stay a little longer. And best of all? It’s ice-cold inside. It’s a small detail, but in a city where the sun feels relentless, having a cool, comfortable space to enjoy your food makes all the difference.
Edna’s Cakeland isn’t just a bakery; it’s a Nueva Ecija institution. It’s the taste of home, the symbol of celebrations, and the kind of place that makes you feel connected to your roots with every bite. Whether it’s their legendary Yema Roll, their comforting Cheese Rolls, or even just a cold glass of Iced Nescafé, there’s something undeniably special about this place. And as long as there are celebrations, as long as there are homecomings, Edna’s Cakeland will always have a place...
Read moreSeems they have good cakes so I decided to go for breakfast and maybe dessert. Had to switch queues because they had different lines for the patisserie and the restaurant, had to look around to find the menu as it's not placed in a convenient location, and their ordering counter had a table obstructing the customer side so it was awkward ordering.
Ordered the pork steak meal, no dessert as I was already annoyed and just eager to eat and run. When i was served, they only had plastic cutlery for my pork steak. Aside from the issue of the single-use plastic, I was expected to deal with my steak using a flimsy, fast-food-place-quality spoon and fork. Totally disappointing, considering the place was so pleasant and welcoming.
The food is good, the ambience is great. But the inefficiencies and the plastic cutlery made eating here an unpleasant experience for me. Eat somewhere else and then maybe come here for the cakes...
Read moreDon’t know why, but when I asked one of the servers for 2 baked macs, she didn’t heat them up right. i mean, its simple, just put it in the microwave and heat them up, she still managed to screw it up. Don’t order meals there, all they are good for are the cakes. Don’t recommend having a meal there. Nice place though.
