As a foreigner living in the Philippines, McDonald’s is one of the only places I rely on when I’m craving a proper beef burger. Unfortunately, my recent visit to this branch was incredibly disappointing and honestly frustrating.
I ordered my usual meal: a Full Big Mac with Large Fries and a Large Drink, plus a Double Cheeseburger. I finished the Double Cheeseburger first, then opened the Big Mac box—only to discover there were no beef patties inside. Just the bun, sauce, and toppings.
How does a branch serve a Big Mac without the patties? If this had happened back home in the U.S., there would’ve been an apology, a refund, or some form of accountability. But here, it’s like no one is responsible for anything. My partner brought the patty-less burger to the counter and showed the staff. Nobody said a word—not even an apology. They silently handed her a replacement.
Then, things got worse. Right after she gave me the replacement burger, a random kid came up to our table and stuck his hands inside the Big Mac box, grabbing at the food. I was disgusted. Needless to say, I didn’t eat it. What’s more shocking is that there are no rules enforced for kids in these restaurants. They’re allowed to run wild while the staff and parents do nothing.
This kind of experience would never be tolerated in the U.S.—not by the staff, the restaurant management, or the parents. Sadly, this isn’t the first time I’ve experienced poor service and hygiene in food places here. Many are overpriced, and the food quality and customer care are far below acceptable standards.
