Casa Velyn is like an ancestral house of our lolos and lolas with all its furniture preserve.
This restaurant is not your typical resto nowadays. Its food and menu selection are not commercialize too much and it preserves the 'almost' authentic and varied ingredients typical to our spanish inspired cuisine. Their customer service has a personal vibes as if you are inside the comfort of your lolos and lolas house with household help.((ahehe i dont know if you get what i mean)
In short they are attentive, respectful yet know to keep their distance.
Let's start our review with the place.
Its outside facade is enticing for couple who wish to have a fine dining experience in an intimate setting but wishes to keep it really conservative (or pure thoughts...ahahahaha)
Patio is open and I must say although it is quaint and scenic... i will not try to have my dinner here because of mosquito.ahahahah.
Inside of the resto retains the spanish ancestral vibe even though there are several tables placed strategically all over the area. Cashier and kitchen is not visible from the entrance so it doesnt feel like you are inside a restaurant. Antiques and woodworks can be seen in all nooks of the house.
Menu selection focuses on spanish and filipino food.
Prices are midrange but according to my friend, Casa Velyn is on the expensive side for Zamboanga's standard. (To be honest I didnt feel it because the serving is big and for sharing so for me, the prices are just right)
As for food itself, it retains the taste of the original version
I tried their baked scallops with cheese. And ohh I really love it...this is definitely a recommendation for me for its must try.
Their bulalo is also delish and the serving is good for 4 pax.
Paella is filling. I really thought that the serving is small but dont be deceive just yet because it can serve five pax because it is a heavy meal and a mouthdul is enoguh for yoy to feel full.
Seafood Kare kare is laso good with lots of sea ingredients. The crunchiness and breading of the seafood compliments the over all sauce of the dish.
Over all I am delighted with...
Read moreThe place's ambiance was great, so was their food, to describe the food, I'd say it was a culinary delight. Their bilao was good, it's packed full of good food(The calamari, the fish, and the prawns were scrumptious, they were fresh, and were seasoned just right. The ribs were tender, and juicy. The sisig platter was spot-on, it wasn't greasy like others, actually it was really good. Kung tutuusin, masasabi niyo talagang malasa at masarap.) Their service crew were very accomodating. Anyway, I would highly recommend people who are in Zamboanga City and those who are visiting Zamboanga to dine...
Read moreFor me the food was great. The place is nice. It has the wooden-vintage-type of scene. A lot of ornaments. And the waiting time is good. There is a second floor. The place is not big. Around 8 tables with estimated capacity of 40 people can only fit at the first floor. (I havent gone upstairs)
What i tasted here are their kare-kare (delicious), binagoongan baboy (delicious also), the fried rice is commendable. The sinigang is good. i have tasted also theit Pinakbet and Sisig bangus. I dont know much about knickerbacker but it tasted better at thus place than my first time on...
