A Flor do Sal — Restaurant in Braga

A restaurant with a lovely setting, attractive decor, and plenty space between diners. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was typical Portuguese dishes and they were well prepared. (NB they use lots of oil and salt in Portuguese cooking, and here was no exception). The portions were very generous and beautifully presented. There was a good wine list but little explanation of the wines. We choose a white Douro 2019 and it was delicious; similar to a lightly oaked Chablis. We had some carpaccio of smoked cod as a starter which was very tasty. We ordered 4 dishes for our table of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) and this was far enough for all of us. I had roasted octopus and it was deliciously tender (not chewy as it often can be); we had filets of fish in a light batter, salted cod in a breaded coating; and rice with jumbo shrimps. The desserts were also very tasty. We were very well received, and the children were welcome, even in an upmarket/formal restaurant. The prices were very reasonable. We had a delicious meal at Restaurante A Flor Do Sal. It came on the recommendation of our host at Casa do Engenho-Braga.

The restaurant is a short distance from the casa and has parking available. The decor is tasteful and the view of the surrounding mountains is spectacular.

The owner and staff are friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious! We started with alheira. We had two entrées: octopus with potatoes, onions, olives and a green (similar to a chard or spinach). My partner had a giant prawn with salad. Everything was perfectly cooked and flavourful. Very good wine selection. Dessert (chocolate muffin with lemon sorbet and fresh berries) was tasty. Port, espresso and Sao Domingos finished off our meal.

The owner took the time at the end of our meal to show us the chapel (attached to the restaurant) that his mother diligently restored over a period of 15 years!

When we got there looks like close restaurant, but for our surprise, outstanding food and customers service, chef always in our table suggesting food from menu, impressive manners as we ordered 2 plates and chef said "it is too much food, see the size of one plate and if you need order another" and he was right! we didn't need another plate. No lemonade in menu, but server went and took some lemons out tree and made a lemonade to my daughter.Definitely...
