Restaurante MAT — Restaurant in Cabeceiras de Basto

We found this restaurant via Google and were initially impressed by the photos, reviews, and especially the menu, which advertised a lunch menu for €10–15. Based on that, we made a reservation for 1:30 PM using the link provided.

When we arrived, we received the same menu shown online – except the first two pages with the lunch menu were missing. When we asked the staff if we could order the lunch menu, we were met with surprise. The waitress told us that customers with reservations usually order à la carte, and she needed to check if we were even allowed to order the lunch menu. I was honestly shocked and ready to leave, but my wife insisted we stay as our kids were hungry.

After a short wait, the waitress confirmed that we were permitted to order from the lunch menu.

Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. The food was of very poor quality. I’ve never had a worse meal in any restaurant in northern Portugal. My pork chop was tough, overcooked, and about 60% fat.

The whole experience started bad and ended worse. The only explanation I can come up with for the waitress’s behavior is that she might have been ashamed of the lunch menu and was trying to avoid serving it. I cannot think of any...

Tive uma experiência maravilhosa neste Restaurante! Desde o momento em que entrei, fui recebido com um atendimento caloroso e atencioso. A decoração do lugar é charmosa e aconchegante, criando um ambiente perfeito para uma refeição agradável. A comida foi simplesmente espetacular! Cada prato que experimentei estava perfeitamente preparado e cheio de sabor. O menu é variado e oferece opções para todos os gostos. Além disso, o serviço foi impecável. Os funcionários foram extremamente corteses e conhecedores do menu, sempre prontos para dar sugestões e garantir que tudo estivesse perfeito. Sem dúvida, se tornou um dos meus lugares favoritos para jantar. Recomendo a todos que estão em busca de uma experiência culinária excepcional. Mal posso esperar...

Nous avons été impressionnés par la qualité de ce restaurant aussi bien en termes d'accueil, de sympathie que de nourriture !

Certes, se restaurant vous coutera un peu plus cher qu'un traditionnel portugais. En revanche, le calme et la tranquillité n'a pas de prix, tout le personnel et souriant et ne gueule pas comme c'est souvent le cas dans beaucoup de restaurants au Portugal. Et, ça ces extraordinaires !

Nous étions cinq totales et avons pris : 1 rhum, 5 entrées, 5 plats et 4 dessert, 3 litres de sangria et 2 café = 217€ d'addition.
