XS Cafe — Restaurant in Calheta

Hands down, easily the best cafe in Madeira! Lattes and cappuccinos were excellent. We also ate from the lunch menu and had several of the pastries. Everything was great and we purchased two bags of beans so we could make them with our pour-over. My partner and i are very picky with coffee, and finding a nice coffee shop when we go on vacation is usually a challenge. We tried some other highly rated and recommended spots in Madeira but they all tasted like the classic, chain dark roast/burnt flavour you get all around western europe (Illy, Lavazza.. etc). A lovely, quaint cafe next to the church in Prazeres, a small town about 10 minuets from Calheta Beach. Out of the way. A couple of good lunch places close bye. The apple pie is a winner. Because it is off the beaten path, the cafe proves to be a good place for journaling, reading a book, and weather permitting, soaking up the sunshine outside. Lovely little café with a local touch! 🥐☕️ XS Café offers a great selection of fresh-pressed juices, homemade pies, pastries, and creative sandwiches. They also serve excellent local-brewed coffee that pairs perfectly with their bakery treats. We tried the fresh orange, carrot-ginger-lemon juice and a pastel de nata — both were fantastic! The owners are super friendly and make you feel welcome right away.
