Restaurante Capelo's — Restaurant in Castelo Branco

Very nice food with very attentive staff. All the front of house staff speak English which is a nice bonus. One thing did strike me and that is that it seems that if you want any sides you have to order separately. I will have to check on my next visit. Prices are a bit high for this part of Portugal and the beer prices are much too high.

I visited again after a year. There were four of us. The service was poor. We had to shout to get someone to take a drinks order before we ordered food. Two of us ordered Sagres. After a few minutes the so called American server came back to say that they did not serve Sagres. He did not offer an alternative. We did eventually receive our drinks. Upon ordering the food I asked if the prawns were grilled or fried. I was told that they were grilled. Wrong! They are fried. My friend ordered soup with his meal. When the main courses arrived there had been no soup. On questioning nobody knew anything about it. It was too late by then. The food was delicious and well cooked and presented. There is a severe lack of side dishes and none appear on the menu. There was a small dish of rice, one of fries and one of some sort of green vegetable. Not enough for four hungry people. Prices are vey high. This meal cost more than twice what I would normally pay for a greater amount of food elsewhere. I will say that the standard of the food and the presentation were superior.

We visited the restaurant on Monday the 9th for a special occasion, the table was reserved in advance for 4 of us. When somebody reserves a table and when the restaurant is empty, I think customers expect consistent service. And judging by the prices on the menu this year- the service better be very good. Guess what? Did not happen. The staff were speaking English, but their knowledge of the menu was not great, we had to shout out to attract anyone's attention to get served, the starter for one of my guests was forgotten from the order, so....not impressed,to say the least. The owner, and Chef prepared an amazing Robalo only in a few minutes. We were served it was past 22h00, and the attitude of the staff was very friendly and accommodating of such a late arrival of Clients! After we sat down, the service was quick and the presentation of the dishes was very pleasant, even the butter and bread...! The Chef came to our table at the end of our mean and we ended up chatting a bit and touring his establishment, discovering his taste for antique artifacts, and an amazing wine collection, where a nice large table for bigger families is also set up, providing quite a unique ambiance!
