Restaurante Churrasqueira do Calhabé — Restaurant in Coimbra

We had lunch this afternoon here during our short visit to Coimbra (October, 2022). We found this restaurant while we headed to the Coimbra town hall. We saw many people queue for take-away food. After checking inside, they allow dine-in too.

Their speciality is churrasqueira but we ordered arroz tamboril and entrecosto. We liked and we recommend this place for local Portuguese food.

Pros: The restaurant is quite big. Free wifi. Free restroom. The staff is very kind, and nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They allow dine-in and take-out food. It is perfect for family, solo, or couple eating place. The price is quite affordable. We spent 20€ for 2 half dose of food, 1.5L of water, bread, and chicken soup. The arroz tamboril with gambas is okay. Arroz feijão is good and tasty. The portion is quite generous. We just ordered half dose of each meal. Payment in cash or Multibanco.

Since I found it’s existence, I’ve been a regular customer. Not only the cuisine is amazingly tasty, but also the service all of the staff provides feels like a personalized treatment. After 2 or 3 times around not only did they know my name but also the way I like my food. It’s a very typical kind of Portuguese cuisine that will wake up your taste from the very first bite. Fui experimentar esta churrasqueira que diz ter um frango churrasco como especialidade da casa, mas de especialidade não tem nada... frango seco seco seco, horrível e foi como prato do "dia" ao almoço!

Serviço MUITO lento, demorou cerca de 29min a vir o frango, como prato do "dia" numa churrasqueira ... Ao almoço ...

A brincadeira da dose de frango + pão + fino + café ficou em 10.60€. Muito desapontado, pois se fosse bom não me importaria do valor. Contudo ainda se arranja valores mais baixo para restaurantes ao lado.
