O Fuso — Restaurant in Funchal

I strongly advise against visiting this place, especially for tourists.

We were drawn in by the good reviews and decided to give this restaurant a try. The place seemed charming at first, and the owner was talkative and persuasive. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end.

On a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was completely empty — something that should have raised red flags. At the owner’s suggestion, we ordered grilled fish, potatoes, and a salad. That turned out to be a big mistake.

The fish was absolutely terrible — it smelled bad, tasted off, and was clearly not fresh. When we pointed this out, the owner responded by saying it was “frozen fish, just recently defrosted.” To us, it was simply spoiled, and it doesn’t matter whether it was frozen or not.

To anyone who enjoys good food, I strongly discourage visiting this place. And to everyone else — I still wouldn’t recommend it, because unfortunately, we got food poisoning.

I do not recommend at all this place. The owner is too talkative, and very far away from being customer oriented. When ordering our food, my partner asked for the cod dish and the owner said that he did not recommend it because the balance quality-price was not good - then why proposing this dish on their menu??? An owner that discourage from ordering something they propose... Very strange. I ordered the octopus, and it smelled bad and tasted unpleasant. We informed the owner, who asked if he could taste the octopus in front of us. We found this really awkward. However, good thing is that we weren't charged for the octopus. But please consider other...

Wow, what a great place. I was with my son looking for a final place to eat in Madeira before taking back our plane. Actually, the owner inform me that it was close that night for a special event. You know what...they invited us to eat!. We had the restaurant just for us. That so sweet from that lovely couple. We were feeling very special. The steak and octopus was "succulent"!
