Restaurante Garajau — Restaurant in Santa Cruz

I have eaten there with my boy yesterday evening, my dish it was to be grilled octopus (my favorite dish) with veggies, half of the suspicious stuff in my plate was a garlic peels and the veggies tasted really weird like on the point of getting bad, I could not eat it, first the patron said they will bring me some other veggies, well they did not, and then he said we can chose a desert that it would be on the house, they then brought us some chocolate-like cake topped by a bit of ice-cream and some alcohol (that we did not choose, their choice, my boy is 10! His fries had not fried enough but he ate them.as he was hungry, the meat he refused to eat) we could not eat that either it was really not tasty, I hardly made it to the toilet on time, I was so sick, I am just over my second day with diarhea, a very regrettable expierence, I give one star for the serving girl who remained smiling...

I am sad I don’t live in Madeira so that I could visit this restaurant any time I want. It was our best experience on the island and way above.

Food was just great. Fish was perfect - not dry at all (as I ate several times in Madeira). Salads were included in price and were great too. Meat of my fried tasted amazing and even though he wasn’t that hungry he ate all. :) Fruits (dessert) and amazing tomato paste (appetizer) were for free and tasted just amazing.

Prices are really good. For that quality it was really cheap, especially when we paid much more for rubbish food in the other restaurants last days. It’s very encouraging to come back!

Atmosphere of this place is really great. If you just look at the places around- it’s totally empty. All crowds go here.

This is one of my favorite meals on the island so far. The owner and server were very friendly and hospitable. My server spoke English very well and we talked a bit about things to do on the island. I got the octopus stew that was FANTASTIC, along with a nice bottle of vinho verde. If there wasn't so much to try on my short time here, I would eat here again often. So delicious and wonderful,...
