Underwhelming experience that is not worth its price. The food is amazing, but the service was so bad it made everyone at our table uncomfortable. At least, the experience was worth a few laughs:
We were sat down 30min after our reservation (they were clearly understaffed and the restaurant was packed); and we ordered drinks, starters and main dishes. The waiter quite literally threw grissini sticks on our table. After 30 min of waiting, we called the waiter and asked about the drinks. We saw him go in the bar and prepare them himself. Our cocktails were served, but no water (as ordered). After a while, one of the three starters arrived. 50 minutes after the original request, two out of the seven main dishes arrived (before the remaining starters!). Two of us finished those dishes before any other food or water arrived. After a while, the waiter asked if all the food had arrived, we replied it didn’t and he just took off. Eventually we called him and told him we’d been waiting for a long time (over an hour and a half since we first arrived). He argued back (rudely) that “the wait wasn’t that long, because we were only sat down about 30min after we arrived, their only mistake was having the two main dishes arriving too soon, so the order was messed up”. A reminder that at this point we had people at the table who hadn’t eaten at all (because neither their starters or main dishes had arrived) over 1h30min after our reservation time. Instead of apologising and trying to address what was missing, the waiter was arguing. At this time, we said there was no need to serve the starters anymore and asked for the water once again - it finally arrived. Never saw a restaurant taking over an hour to serve a bottle of water.
When the food finally arrived it was very, very good. Some of the best Italian food we’ve ever had. Maybe except for the carbonara.
The worst part of the evening was right at the end. Before the bill arrived, we decided to have a word with the waiter on his manners. Over the evening, we quite literally had to remind him of everything we were waiting for, and instead of ever showing interest, he just argued back. We felt neglected the whole evening. That in itself is enough to apologise and try to understand why your clients were not satisfied. Whether he thinks he’s right or not.
To our surprise, once the bill came, we noticed an overcharge on the grissini sticks. So, first off, we asked for the price of those sticks to be rebated. The waiter seemed surprised that we were so greedy enough to rebate 2.4€ out of a 200€ bill. He had the same condescending attitude which he’d been showing all night. At that point, we told him that that attitude was another issue we wanted to address. The waiter kept arguing that we’d been served properly and that we “weren’t doing him any favours” [by attending the restaurant]. We said that all we were looking for was some acknowledgment or apology. He finally apologised, although clearly displeased. It felt like arguing with a child. Once we mentioned that we were trying to avoid asking for the complaints books, he promptly talked back “Do you want me to get the book for you? No problem”. He promptly left and didn’t return even while being called. Two of us had to follow him inside.
The service for the complaints book was better than for the rest of the meal.
Go for the take-away or don’t go. Unless you’re famous or look rich. Probably then they think you’re able to “do them...
Read moreA night to remember for the wrong reasons. We had a reservation for 10pm and arrived on time, however they only had table for us at 10.30pm and didn’t even bother to speed up the process. We finally sat and got the menus to order at 10.40pm. We order some starters, the mains and also drinks. For our surprise it took 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive (and we had to ask for them again) and they even forgot the water that only came at the end of the dinner. We waited a long time and finally 1 of the 3 starters arrived, and the other 2… they never did. Shortly after, 2 of the mains also arrived and the other 5 again didn’t arrive… finally the waiter asks if everything was delivered and we had to alert him that 5 mains were still missing (and the other 2 were long gonne) It was only around 11.30pm that the other dishes arrived and we finally got to eat. During this time, we got to appreciate the beatiful life music that was on and got a chat with each other, mas we made sure that the staff was informed of out disappointement. But sadly, the waiter didn’t show any respect for us (probably because we’re stil 25) and kept arguing back and trying to show that he was right. At the end we just asked for the bill to leave, and again, we were mischarged, and got a reply back that wasn’t nice at all. The waiter kept insisting that he treated us the best way possible, when clearly that wasn’t the case. And finally he decided to walk way as soon as we ask for the complaint book. Me and a friend chased him to talk to him again and to ask for the manager. The manager however was such a different nice guy. He quickly apologized us, and at the end even went to out table to apologize for the rest of the group. And even try to make it better. We just wanted to get a better service and to get shown some respect. Pros: the food and ambience were amazing. Probably one of the best Italian places I had (and my friends also agree) Cons: Some waiters were relax while others were serving, they even had their own children during the time they were serving, and the waiter that served us was rude and condescending. The bill was 200€ for 7, so almost 30€ per person, and clearly overpriced for the...
Read moreWe went to Tosca on a Wednesday during the high season in August and were lucky to get a table even though we didn’t have a reservation. The lady at the entrance was very nice and welcoming, and she accompanied us to our table. She also interacted sweetly with our child and gave him chalk to draw on the floor, which was a lovely touch. Unfortunately, our waitress did not meet the same standard. She didn’t speak Portuguese, and her English wasn’t good enough to fully understand our order. Service hadn’t even properly started yet (we arrived at 19:30 when the restaurant had just opened), and her shirt was already covered in stains. Then our order went completely wrong: She forgot the wine we had ordered, so we had to remind her. We had asked for spaghetti instead of tagliatelle for the Bolognese dish, and the Pizza Diavola with less sausage/salami. What we received was the regular Bolognese with tagliatelle, and when she brought the pizza, she said: “Here is the pizza with less sauce.” We explained that we had asked for less salami, not less sauce. She apologized and even offered to exchange it, but we didn’t have time to wait longer — with a toddler, every minute counts, so we had to deal with the mistake. The food itself was good, but unfortunately, we didn’t receive what we had ordered. The staff was very polite and friendly, but the language barrier made the experience a disappointing one.
We hope that next time the experience...
