Praya is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, breathe deep, and stay way longer than you planned. Located right on the sand at Praia do Almoxarife, this beach restaurant has one of the most stunning terraces in the Azores — front-row seats to the Atlantic and Mount Pico beyond. Sunset here is pure magic.

The vibe? Laid-back but elegant. Wooden textures, island design, and a warm, open space that blends perfectly with the landscape. You can show up barefoot from the beach and still feel like you’re dining somewhere special.

The food? Fresh, local, and full of flavor. Think seared tuna, island cheeses, creative starters to share, and great vegetarian options too. Everything is made with care and beautifully presented, but without the fuss of fine dining. It’s more “modern Azorean bistro” than traditional — and it works.

Drinks? Excellent wine list featuring local producers, plus creative cocktails. Try the local white wine with fresh fish — a...

I stepped inside the restaurant excited with the idea to have lunch here. They said that it was impossible without reservation because they were waiting for other people already. In that moment there was only one table occupied on the whole restaurant, both in and out. I asked if we two could eat fast or come at another time and they rudely turned us down. I had lunch in another nearby restaurant, and cameback 45min latter to find the the restaurant still completely empty. I felt a bit discriminated, maybe because we were two guys. It's very...

Good food, nice interiors, great location, good service. We went to Praya for a light lunch after swimming at the beach nearby. Everything was delicious with the Queijo Morro (local cheese) being the highlight. The menu looked very promising. Good wine list as well. The interiors are nicely decorated which differentiate the place a lot from the standard tavern aesthetics that you usually find in the region. Service...
