O Arruda — Restaurant in Lajes das Flores

I love this restaurant their food is always delishes. The bacalhau de natas is so good, fish fillet with Almond sauce good too. The owner makes great desserts. 😋😋 I tried their new vegan plate which was the Vegetarian hamburger made with black beans, came with no bread, just frys and a little salad. I did think it would be better with a hamburger 🍔 roll but over all I enjoyed it. The cook is an extremely kind and talented professional, she knows how to cook and bake really well. They have a new waitress that is very professional and sweet. I really liked her a lot 👌😍 The owner can be abrupt sometimes but the good food over compensates for him. I recommend the tune stake, the fish fillet with Almond sauce, the bacalhau de natas (which you should call ahead to reserve your plate, sells fast) on some Sundays they make their famous octopus which is the best (you must reserve your meal days ahead, they make it by reservations only) love her soups,pizza are good too, feijão with seafood 👍. I visited O Arruda for dinner and it was a mistake. I already had a horrible day as my flight was cancelled due to weather and I had a hard time finding a reasonable accommodation. To top up the bad experience, I felt discriminated when I asked for a table in an almost empty restaurant as they wanted to sit in the bar and not in the restaurant, when I opposed and told them that the restaurant is empty , why should I go to the bar, they agreed for a table in the restaurant. The food portion was smallest among all the restaurants that I have eaten in different islands in Azores including Flores, and taste at best was mediocre. Surprising! You would not tell from the outside that you are going to eat so well! You can eat outside, inside or in another room where there are several tables. You feel home. The owner is so kind and thoughtful! He will take very good care of you! The food is fresh and delicious, either meat or fish you cannot go wrong. We had Boca Negra and the mixed meat.
