Muralha's Bar, located in Caniçal, Madeira, is a seafood haven that left us thoroughly impressed. The standout feature of this charming establishment is undoubtedly its remarkable seafood dishes, which are nothing short of amazing. The 'Polvo' (octopus) was tender and flavorful, while the 'Lapas Grelhadas' (grilled limpets) offered a delightful taste of the sea. The 'Mandioca frita' (fried cassava) and the 'Castanhetas fish' were equally delightful choices that left our taste buds satisfied. What sets Muralha's Bar apart from other seafood restaurants on the island is its remarkably competitive prices. Despite the exceptional quality of the food, the prices remained reasonable, allowing us to indulge in the freshest seafood without breaking the bank. The value for money at Muralha's Bar is truly commendable, making it a top choice for those seeking a delicious seafood feast at affordable prices. The service at Muralha's Bar was friendly and attentive, with the staff offering recommendations and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Whether you're a seafood lover or simply looking for a memorable meal, Muralha's Bar in Caniçal is an absolute must-visit. Prepare to be impressed by their delectable seafood offerings and...

Google says they open at 11 but kitchen only opened around 12.
Plenty of parking in gravel lot next to restaurant.
Would prefer if
Got Sidra apple cider, which was nice and cool and came with a slice of apple. My new favorite cider as I like it sweet and the ice always makes it refreshing. If you want alcoholic apple juice, get some.
Got the chicharros fritos, which is fried mackerel which you eat from head to tail, including bones. Was good value, but a bit much of just fried fish for 1 person. Would be nice to pair with a sauce but don't think that's common on Madeira.
Also got the half portion of octopus in stew sauce. The octopus was cooked well, there was some grit in some of the pieces but nothing too crazy. The stew sauce seemed to me to be ketchup based or ... something. I was looking for something a bit more refined I guess and this seems like something a kid would enjoy more.
The fries were good and half portion is a good size for a normal, non-binge-eating human.
Would prefer if the menu was in both Portuguese and English, as I like to know and learn the original name instead of just the weirdly translated...

If you’re hunting for that authentic Portuguese “knelle” (you know, the kind of spot where locals hang out, the vibe’s real, and the food’s even better)—then Muralas Bar in Madeira is exactly what you’re imagining.
This place nails it. It’s unpretentious, welcoming, and all about the essentials: good people, cold drinks, and fish so fresh it practically swam onto your plate. Whether you’re into grilled sea bass, sardines, or octopus, they serve it up simple and perfect—like the ocean meets the grill with zero fuss.
The atmosphere? Think sunny terrace, a salty breeze, and the kind of relaxed buzz that makes you want to stay just a little longer. Bonus points if you catch a golden sunset while sipping on a cold vinho verde.
It’s not fancy. It’s not trying to be. And that’s exactly the charm. Muralas Bar is the kind of place you stumble upon once—and then keep coming back to every time you’re in Madeira.
Oh, and ask for Carla...
