Xalipa's Bar — Restaurant in Marvão

Our experience here was so bad that I struggle to believe this story myself.

We decided to eat here because the place looked nice and it seemed there were plenty of choices on the menu. This menu was only available in Spanish and Portuguese, which is completely understandable, as this bar is in a small village near the Spanish border. Our Spanish was decent enough to understand the menu and we ordered (in English). Our waiter was able to understand us (or so we thought), but responded in fluent Portuguese, even though it was clear we didn't understand much of what he was saying. Later, when we inquired about why some of the food was taking so long, another waiter who spoke English said they hadn't received an order from us. It turned out the Portuguese-speaking waiter had not passed on the part of our order he didn't understand instead of calling his colleague for assistance. To be clear, I'm not annoyed by this waiter's practically nonexistent English (I actually quite understand that), but by the fact that he didn't just ask his colleague to help him.

The food itself wasn't good at all. First of all, a lot of items on the menu were unavailable. In total, they didn't have three of the dishes that they showed on their menu. The food that they did have was absolutely terrible. The snails didn't have any taste, because nothing had been added to give them flavour (normally garlic is added, but that had not been done here), the pizza was clearly frozen (they even served it on a Dr. Oetker plate) and the "hot dog" was a disgusting mix of random toppings thrown together haphazardly. Also, fun fact: the Coca-Cola cans reeked of urine.

The cherry on top was when they tried to charge us for two pizzas, even though we had only ordered one. We were fortunately able to spot this mistake, but it was very infuriating to have to deal with this after a long night of garbage. We went to get a crêpe from a nearby food...

Infelizmente cheguei sentei na esplanada k havia 4 pessoas já atendidas esperei 10 a 15 minutos chegarám 2 pessoas mais, pediram ao balcão, e foram servidos logo rapidamente entretanto já tinha passado por nós dois empregados acho k o dono e a sua filha acho, nem aí nem ui, a seguir sentaram-se 6 pessoas numas mesas mais longe de nós e quando acho k o dono passou por nós disse k já sabia o k queria e ele disse só um bocadinho e foi atender a mesa k chegou depois de nós não sei se seriam vips ou algo do género mas a parte de me ignorar a mim e aos meus filhos e esposa ficou me atravessado para sempre eu k nunca reclamo de nada caiu me muito mal pedi o livro de reclamações e o sr k acho k seja o dono ainda me disse em tom de ameaça k como eu lhe disse k já trabalho há mais de 28 anos na restauração " aí você trabalha nisto, você vai ver..." pois acho k não é atitude duma pessoa k esteja á frente de qualquer negócio na vida mas enfim ainda pensei k este senhor tivesse a dignidade de saber k errou e ao menos falasse como senão tivesse o rei na barriga comigo e no k puder...
