We had to stop at Mealhada to get true Portuguese leitão experience. We lined up outside the restaurant for ~30 minutes with the locals, which is always a promising sign. For two of us, we got the 1kg option with rice, salad, and chips. Pork was 10/10 with crispy skin and juicy meat. I won’t talk about service (barely any english, difficult to get servers attention because they are so busy) or atmosphere, because who cares! These kind of places are all about food.

Showed up on a Tuesday at 7 PM after driving 45 minutes to get here only to see a sign that said closed. I knocked on the door,vand a woman explained to me that they had finished the pig and were closed. So, try going here at your own peril. You'll have no idea if they're open or not regardless of what their hours are. How can you run a restaurant like that

The suckling pig was delicious, although portions were quite small considering all the bones. Nicely accompanied with some of the local sparkling wine. Friendly staff and mostly locals eating there, which is normally a good sign. Right on the side of a busy road and doesn't look anything special from the outside but well worth a visit.

When we are in Mealhada, we face the challenge to know what restaurant we shall go to because there is a huge offer. Unfortunately, sometimes I made the wrong choices by selecting the most famous places. This time, I was taken to Pic Nic by some friends who work in the area, and I confess it's probably one of the best places I have ever experienced for Leitão. The service is very good and friendly. The atmosphere is not fancy, but it's quiet ok. So for sure I will return here next time I am in the area. Totally...

IT WAS THE BEST FOOD I HAVE HAD IN PORTUGAL. The suckling pig was absolutely incredible. The sauce was incredible. This will become a staple in every future visit to Portugal. I believe everyone should come here to experience the food. There is plenty of parking, amazing food, amazing wine, and amazing service. They have staff that speak Portuguese and English.
