X Douro — Restaurant in Mesão Frio

So, this definitely felt like a place intended for tourist. Context is important for this review.

My friends and I came here on a Sunday and we were already advised this is one of the only restaurants open around dinner time on this day. The interior was nice but I could tell by the 90s American music that this wasn’t going to be an authentic experience. Service was pretty solid but the food was a letdown. My friend and I got steak chicken with rice and fries. My other friend got cod . Both meals were pretty average tasting and nothing exceptional. The cod had a lot of bones in it (which might be normal - I don’t eat a lot of fish) and it had a really weird taste to it. The other dishes were something you could make at home. Desserts weren’t too bad. We ordered chocolate mousse, vanilla ice cream, and apple pie. Overall, I would give it a solid 3/5. Great place with great food! The staff is very welcoming and helpful! It's a bit tricky to find where the restaurant really is. You get into the main gate (photo number 1 in this review), turn right into the direction of the "Tricycle Museum" (photo number 2) and then proceed up the stone stairs on the right side of that building (photo number 3).
