The 2burguer restaurant is located at number eight of Miguel Pais Street with entrance on Tenent Valadim Street in Montijo downtown, in the exact same place where the iconic Ti Maria was at several years ago. When I got there I was a bit caught on surprise because I was going just for quick bite but instead, this restaurant actually offers a full table service. Very friendly waitress shows me a table and walks me through the menu. Hamburger sandwiches with a local twist...sounds interesting. The decor is kind of hippie trendy with the some of oldies Goldie's flare with some poppy pictures on the walls. I can't forget the image of the chandelier made out of bicycle wheels..I was not the only confused because the crowd was mixed I found mainly families dining where you would usually cater for a younger crowd. well this is a Burger Gourmet restaurant I was told. So I ordered the traditional Burger it's a 6-oz burger with cheddar cheese and because they have no salad to go aside with the burger so I just ordered a salmon salad. 20 minutes later my order was on the table so let's start with the salmon salads some rúcula, Brussels cabbage lettuce soy sprouts, croutons and something that looked like who chewed by dog and spewed back. That was supposed to be the salmon. The salad had no flavor what-so-ever even with the drizzle of olive oil salt and pepper nothing much to say about this salad. Seem to be right out of a supermarket carton. The burger sandwich was overdone no flavor into it. topped with cheddar cheese with a fommy consistency. not a good sign for cheese. Yack! Definitely served in sweet bread industrial packaged bun. Honestly I can't understand how in a country where they have such good whole bread backing tradition they use soggy sweetened Supermarket buns. Not a good choice for gourmet food definitely. Positive note for caramelized onions topping the burger that was good, actually. On the side there was this huge pile of soft french fries, so if you like to fill your belly with french fries this is the place to go. Positive note for the friendly staff. So closing thought, gourmet burger, maybe not, trendy maybe, I would say a big disappointment especially because you know making burgers it's a very complicated business. You see, you just have to go to your local butcher ask to ground up a piece of Chuck that is the best cut for burgers actually then take it home, tuck in meat in disk shape, season it with salt and pepper to taste throw it on the hot grill for 3 to 4 minutes. Turn it over on the other side 3 to 4 minutes slide in to a freshly baked bun. And that's it juicy fresh tasty hamburger. Not what I...
Read moreAh~ 2Burger. My favorite burger joint.
Nowadays there's one for every corner of Lisbon and beyond, these so called deluxe and/or fancy burgers, but 2Burger is a real treat and sets itself apart from the rest (and easy to find in the town of Montijo!).
To start the place is phenomenal in terms of ambient and atmosphere, but it is a little too tight when packed (happens often) and I'm not a fan of most chairs they have there. Not very comfy.
The service is impressive, with the older staff being very experienced in recommendations or plain conversation and friendly too, as a direct contrast to the more juvenile (in a good way!) and hearty younger staff that always have a joke or two to crack.
The food itself rivals everything related that I've tasted out there. The meat is consistently cooked to your needs, the garnish on the burger always compliments the bun and meat nicely, and the potatoes (which you can replace with a sweet variety) are very, very crunchy and delicious, especially if you order them with bacon and cheese.
The desserts are always impressive, but my favorite one, Ferrero Roché cake, is an absolute delight on the taste buds. Try it out, you will not regret it in the slightest.
I so wish more people knew...
Read moreI've been seeing it for months, but I didn't go in because I thought it was a classic "burger shop". I was absolutely wrong!
I ordered the Vietnamese shrimp meatball burger. It's called burger, but it doesn't come as a burger. It is served without top bread. My order had a wonderfully delicious shrimp meatball in it. It came with a slice of pineapple and a very tasty sauce. Definitely the best shrimp meatballs I've ever eaten. Normally I don't like the taste of shrimp in Portugal. I can say that this was the most delicious thing I ate in Portugal. I had a red fruit sangria with it. The fruits were sweetened with sugar. I definitely...
