Disappointed overall. The Papa Figos wine was very drinkable. We enjoyed it. The green leaf salad with tomatoes, walnuts and goat cheese was excellent. The filet mignon arrived cold as if it had been sitting for quite some time. There was too much going on with this dish…mushrooms, cream sauce (very salty), grilled pineapple (best thing on the plate), sweet potato chips burned and tough. The dish also came with scalloped potatoes and vegetables; again just too much. We also ordered the cod dish and it too had a lot going on. The cod was a little tough and a bit to salty. There appeared to be both mashed sweet potatoes and slices of white potatoes with the cod; one or the other would have been more palatable. Also, the dish came with red cabbage sautéed in olive oil and garlic ( I think) which was nice.
Our biggest disappointment was our waitress. She had lost her joy that evening or just did not like serving Americans, not friendly at all. She seemed to be very angry and basically threw my cod fish plate in front of my husband, which he did not order. The other staff and owner/manager were very friendly. I guess we just drew the short straw and got the waitress who preferred to clean tables and unload...
Read moreThis restaurant is worth seeking out. We had two meals there during a recent stay in Vila Nova de Milfontes - it took us no more than 15 minutes from town. Sao Luis is a little maze of narrow streets and we drove past it twice without realising as it's tucked away. You might want to park up and go on foot as it's only a small village. The restaurant's obviously popular with locals and visitors, so we visited ahead to make a reservation but the staff speak English so don't rule out trying to reserve by phone. The overall experience was fantastic. The food was brilliant - one of the best steaks I've ever had - and the local pork was superb. The service is excellent and the prices offer very good value for money. The portions are big! We saw some diners sharing starters, main courses and desserts - and that's totally understandable. Best meals we had in either Lisbon or...
Read moreI popped in a Saturday night and it was all reserved, so i asked for take out, which they do. I said I was vegan, and the front man/waiter didn't know what a vegan was/wasn't sure what to reccomend on the menú, so he called the chef. The young woman/chef came out from the kitchen, and I told her I was vegan, if she had any roasted potatoes ready. She said yes, they had it that night, so I ordered a cous cous with vegetables, and a portion of roasted potatoes. When I arrived home I discovered that the potatoes were covered by some heavy creamy and heavy oily sauce, which made them uneatable for me. The cous cous on the other hand was very nice, but I was still hungry, and I was disappointed at the end. Too bad here in Portugal even better quality restaurants are still far behind in caring for...
