We decided to give this restaurant a try for lunch in early June. It didn’t look too busy so we approached a waiter who was clearing a table outside, acknowledged him and sat down. And we waited. 5 mins. 10 mins. Looking around we noticed waiters bringing out food and drink and clearing away other tables but nobody came to serve us. So we waited some more. Another 5 mins. Then we saw a group of three guys who had come in 5 mins after us, standing in the doorway, being ignored. They walked away but were called back by a waiter. I then went and stood in the doorway and the next waiter who came out, I pointed at our table 10 feet away and asked for a menu. He nodded. I went back to the table and waited another 5 mins. Still no service. So after 25 or so minutes in total, we gave up and left.
I’ve never experienced being totally ignored by waiters in over 50 years of eating in restaurants around the world 🤷♂️ There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.
And if the owner does bother to reply to this and suggest we need ‘a little patience’ or that ‘we were busy’ as he has on the many many many other negative reviews of their poor service, maybe prioritise giving customers a menu and drink before clearing away empty tables?...
Read moreVery cute restaurant in terms of decoration and setting. We only ordered fish on the grill and oysters, so cannot speak about the more elaborated dishes, but both fishes were very fresh and well grilled, with the typical side dishes of salad and boiled potatoes/french fries (very yummy). They have a nice wine list with some good options. However, they need to up their game with the type of wine glasses as they only have a huge one (like the Riedel Cab-Merlot type) and nothing else (apart from tiny flutes for sparkling). Those glasses are killers of young white wines and especially Vinho Verdes! Another thing that struck me was that we ordered water, were charged for it but it did not seem mineral water since the closure was not sealed. Lastly, the ladies that are more in charge (possibly sisters? As they looked a lot alike) could be a bit nicer to non-Portuguese people like us. It was hard to get a smile from them. The other waiters were very nice otherwise. Not 5 stars because of the last points above, but overall a really nice place. PS: Reservation needed - we were lucky to pop by just before the first shift and get the last available table on a...
Read moreHIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED REATAURANT, especially for Rota Vicentina hikers!! We visited this restaurant on our hike on this trail. First we were denied to buy a beer on tap as "it is only possible to order with food". So we bought beers in bottles and some ice cream and wanted have a break by sitting down at one of approx. 7 free tables outside of the restaurant. Just few seconds after we sat down, one of the employees came to us asking to leave. We said we just want to drink and eat what we bought there, but he was still forcing us to leave immediately!! We really don't understand why this very UNFRIENDLY RESTAURANT has the sign of Rota Vicentina there, if they don't want us there. We were hungry too, but rather left and spent our money somewhere else, where the staff understand that hikers can be dirty or sweated and welcome us despite or better said...
