I’m genuinely baffled by the 4.5-star rating this restaurant has received… I don’t mean to be rude, but anyone who rates this place highly must not have much experience with gastronomy, especially Japanese cuisine. I rarely write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to after leaving this so-called "fancy" Japanese restaurant feeling utterly disappointed, deceived, and hungry! The pieces were inconsistent in size, the miso soup was another letdown, with tofu that had clearly turned, giving it an unpleasantly sour taste. They also left the skin on the fish, which added to the overall poor presentation and taste. The portion sizes were shockingly small. We were served 20 pieces of very basic sushi for an exorbitant 55€ selling it as a meal for 2. You may think it could be more complex ones but no, just look at the picture. To add insult to injury, the meal ended with complimentary fruit that was past its prime—rotten, old apple slices, seeded grapes, and dry pineapple. The staff began clearing our plates before we were even finished. And while I don’t mind casual attire, the waitstaff dressed in jeans and t-shirts felt completely out of place in a restaurant charging such high prices. The choice of tableware was equally unimpressive, with plastic broken bowls that further cheapened the experience. We left the restaurant not only dissatisfied but still hungry. It’s safe to say that this was one of the most overpriced and underwhelming food experiences I’ve ever had (went in about 5000+ restaurants). Sorry for the truth.

A very average sushi experience for a higher-than average price. The quality of the fish was higher than most places in Portugal, but the preparation of most pieces was lacking- one piece of sashimi still had an errant scale clinging to it. The variety was a Brazilian/ Portuguese take on traditional sushi, which is not a bad thing, but a warning to those who are looking for an actually traditional plate. As an example, hot soup and fried food (part of the gratuity) were served before the sushi. According to a friend, it seems as if Tomo changed hands in the past year, and things may be different than what reviewers previous to that referred to. Our waitress didn't seem to have a grasp on Portuguese or English but still did her best to be helpful. High-price, average quality, understaffed. Overall, a pass.

I payed 56€ for my dinner and left the place hungry and frustrated.

First it took the waiters about 10 minutes to come to my table. I had to beg for their attention. (On a Friday night there were 2 waiters attending about 25 tables, some of them medium sized groups.) Then it took them more than 30 minutes to bring the first dish. It cost 33 euros for 11 pieces of sushi/sashimi, etc... Although very well presented, the quantity of food was even smaller than usual, with some of the sushi pieces being literally tiny, very cute but with the size of one bean. I chose to order another dish. I spent another 15 times begging for the waiters' attention. The next dish took 45 minutes to arrive. Some groups waiting for a table waiter for over one hour, because the kitchen & waiters couldn't deliver, nor people could eat.

The food quality is good but outrageously overrated for the price you pay. The service is lousy. Nobody speaks Portuguese and their English is very insufficient. Plus, what kind of place charging this amount of money for their food and service has a food illiterate person as its manager (or senior waiter?). He's totally clueless about food allergies/intolerances. After telling him I am gluten intolerant, he answered "Then you can't eat the sushi rolls because...
