AKAI — Restaurant in Ovar

I've been going to Akai for a few years now, and I've always had a great experience. The food is always delicious, and the service is excellent. The couple that run the space are very friendly and welcoming, and they always make me feel like I'm part of the family.

The last time I went to Akai, they had a special concept called Omakase. This is a Japanese tradition where the chef prepares a meal for you based on the freshest ingredients available. I was feeling adventurous, so I decided to give it a try. The chef created a beautiful and delicious meal that I might not have ordered on my own. It was a truly unique and memorable dining experience.

This restaurant is a gem. It's a small place modeled after Japanese yatai (food stalls) run by a very welcoming and friendly couple. The staff take the time to explain the format (izakaya = small plates) and menu options, and is attentive throughout the meal. Cost wise, with small plates, your hunger level (and your choice of beverage) dictates your bill. Having been fortunate enough to have eaten Japanese food in Japan, Hawaii and the San Francisco Bay Area, in comparison Sr Ze's dishes and techniques - particularly in grilling, pickling, creativity and presentation - are excellent and on point. Don't miss out on this place! Comfy interior with a lot of character, great and very welcoming service and amazing food. We opted for ( and really glad we did) for chefs recommendations and cannot really say what was my favourite, everything was very well prepared and so delicious. The food kept coming and perfectly timed, not sure how you manage to do it all! Don't miss out on the grilled corn 😋! Thank you for an unforgettable evening.
