Em Banho Maria — Restaurant in Peniche

Found this place by chance whilst travelling through Portugal on motorcycles and was delighted to have found it. It is a beautiful building filled with rustic charm. The restaurant is family operated and they offered us a warm welcome. We had a selection of starters including the flaming local sausage and mushrooms both of which were delicious. The five of us all had different mains and were all happy with our choices. The meats were cooked as ordered and the fish was very tasty. The wine list is actually a number of glass cabinets with a multitude of regional wines all individually priced and ready for perusal. I had the pleasure of dining at Em Banho Maria, and it was an exceptional experience! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. A special shout-out to Nelson, who made my evening even more enjoyable. His constant smile and attentive service made me feel welcome, especially on a day when I was feeling stressed. Authentic Portuguese dining experience with rich local culture, history and cuisine. Top notch decor (rustic and comfortable) with a real wood burning fireplace.

Fair prices and generous portions. Daily feature of mushrooms was delightful, and main meal of steak with onions and garlic oil was simply incredible. Lovely fresh bread and butter, and also we sampled flaming sausage (delicious!).
